Question Roached fuel tank help

I have a fuel tank that is like swiss cheese. It has rust inside and out so I plan to solder the 100 or so holes but my questions is...If I give it a muriatic acid bath, how do I keep rust from returned while I soder all the holes?

Thanks

Have you considered lining it with Caswell's Phenol Novolac epoxy instead of soldering?

Don't use muriatic acid, it doesn't distinguish between rust and good metal and will dissolve both at same rate. Use Naval Jelly (phosphoric acid) instead. Can be found as concrete cleaner/rust-remover at Home Despot.

Sorry, but if your tank has 100 holes it not roached it is toast. The ninja tank are super thin to begin with. It’s time to throw it out and get one of eBay.

Pure project

Yea, it would be better to buy a tank but I want to "DIY" this project. I have only used KREEM (sp?) 20 years ago but had it seperate from the tank. Looking for best practices right now.

Have you had good luck with Caswells?

Thanks

Let's see a "before" photo of this tank with 100 holes!

Quite a few guys on the Kaw triples board have had to deal with rusty tanks, and the phenol novolac epoxy has worked well for them. A friend makes custom fiberglass tanks and lines them as part of the manufacturing process.

I admit that the eBay tank idea has merit too.

Photos

Sorry guys, the tank is from a Bandit. Here are a few photos. I am still getting the paint stripped but you can see there is a lot of rust and holes.

I just got back from a week with my 1972 H2 at the annual 2-stroke meet in Deals Gap, NC. I bought it in 1978 and still love riding it.
