Internet TV

Ok so long story short my old JVC 56" HD CRT projection TV kicked the bucket (there were a lot of acronyms in that sentence). I am now a potential consumer of a new plasma or LCD or even LED LCD TV. Now this has me thinking about do I really need my cable company? Does any one have any knowlege about the internet ready TVs? Or about the quality of programming with just internet TV alone? I did the math and if I purchased the "best" internet and kept my Blockbuster Online (or changed to Netflix) I could end up saving 40 dollars. any help would be appreciated.

Depends how invested you are in current network TV shows. Yes, many shows can be seen online via Hulu, or the main sites of the particular networks. But all shows can't be, and some are put online much later than they actually air. For some people going internet-only might be very feasible, for others it would make more sense to keep some type of cable or satellite provider. I checked antennaweb.org to see what HD channels are available for free over the air in Hawaii, and at least in Honolulu, it looked like not many at all. Here near SF we can get a whole bunch of programming over the air, including all major networks and a few more stations; that's how I record much of the TV we end up watching, and that method is completely free.

have you guys heard of justin.tv?? apparently this place has users (much like in P2P music sights) that broadcast their own television channels over the internet. FE there is a guy who has all the Seinfeld shows on dvd and runs them all day everyday...kinda cool....kinda illegal??

I personally havent been able to find much good TV online. However, like others said, it's dependent on how much TV you watch.
If you live close to any major city, you will get all your local channel (for me its 4,6,7,10,33,35,39 and a few other crap ones) over the air in crystal clear HD (Over the air HD is the clearest signal you can get for live tv).
For me personally, there's only maybe 5-6 channels I would miss that aren't locals if I cut my satellite.

Also, depending on your computer and the TV you buy, if you install a TV Tuner in your computer, you will be able to get all the locals over the air to your computer and your computer will be able to pause, rewind, and record live TV shows.
My personal setup has 3 TV tuners in my computer hooked up to my 42" Sony. Crystal clear HD and I can record all my TV shows....100% free. I also have satellite because of my roomate getting it though.
