Cafe Racer (Didn't buy anything yet!)

Well,

I had this idea in my head to buy a Triumph Daytona 675R as my next bike. I still want one of those, but I think I want a different bike before that.

I've been an admirer of Cafe Racers for a while. Sticking with the Triumph theme, I thought I could go the modern/retro route and get a Thruxton. They are air cooled but fuel injected. So I would basically get modern comforts with a retro styled bike...

Well, I bought a different kind of toy in January, a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, 1969.

Here's the car in my driveway right after I drove it home and washed it after a long trip from LA on a truck.

So, in order to be in good standing with my wife, I need to pause a bit on the spending on toys, but maybe I got the retro bug. Now I am very interested in getting a Honda CB750 converted to a cafe racer. Something very close to this:

Link to original page on YouTube.

I've got my eye out for one... As for the wife, I think I'll have to do some convincing

Thank you Hans. Royal Enfield huh... I do like the British bikes. I'll certainly check that out if/when it happens.

Thanks Rick! I'm scouring Craigslist at the moment. Hopefully at some point this calendar year I'll update this thread with a new toy

This is what it was supposed to be...

This is what it became... Care to spot the differences? I prefer the first one.

That actually looks pretty nice.

I checked the website and all I could find was a Bullet mod kit for $2325

Seems a bit steep. The Bullet 500 which I assume is the base for the Cafe Racer mod is priced at $6000 which seems reasonable.

I'm still leaning retro Honda CB750 but I need to sleep on it. Thanks again for the info. I was not aware that Royal Enfield was even making bikes anymore. I know Norton had many attempts at revamps. One of my former coworkers is British and his brother was involved in the latest revamp attempt. Not sure how that is going.

The clip-ons on the first bike look way better, along with mirrors.

I think I like the seat better on the 2nd one though.

The bike in the pictures is due for a 2013 launch. keep your fingers crossed, but don't hold your breath.

Royal Enfield never really stopped making bikes... They are now based in India and export all over the world. The Classic 500 costs half of that in India. My dad paid 3000$ for his OTD.
