Current owner - hopeful racer

Hello all. After a buddy's misfortune and some craigslist tomfoolery I have become the proud owner of a recalcitrant 2004 Ninjette. I am working on a hanging throttle condition while trying to prep the bike for racing at Chuckwalla this season. I have been a lurker for a while to help with troubleshooting the problem so thanks for all of the information so far.

Welcome!!

Hanging throttle eh? dirty carbs, pull em and clean em. @ducatiman does some good work with those things, shoot him a pm, and don't be afraid to take them out, its realllllly easy, its something about your bike you should get to know.

You must flesh out this misfortune of your buddy's and tomfoolerishness.

Hanging throttle-- Bike was dropped--throttletube grip is rubbing against the bar end or bar is bent under the throttle tube and now allowing the throttle to close back in snappy fashion.

Bike running lean can cause the throttle to hang. Also make sure your idle is set right as well.

Where in SoCal are you? I'm in Torrance!

You'll want to do the 17inch wheel conversion. I'll fight you for a front end. But I'm also willing to help you get the bike sorted if you need it.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm in Oxnard, but I head to Torrance a couple times a year to hit up the Japanese markets. Right now I'm just getting the basics set up while trying to fix the hanging throttle.

As for that, I have done the following:
1) Replaced the spark plugs, carb holders, air box boots
2) disassembled the carbs and ultrasonically cleaned the small parts, cleaned the bodies in a homemade parts washer, complete blow out with a compressor
3) adjusted the valves
4) made numerous tests of mix screw adjustments 1/2 turn at a time

Still hangs. I want to replace all of the hoses on the carbs, but got two screws that won't free up so that I can split the bank.

Kind of stuck on that for now. I really need to fix this issue before continuing on with the race bike preps.

Just remember racing is dangerous (and fun), costly (and fun), addictive (and fun), exciting (and fun), life changing (and fun), deadly (and fun), educational (and fun), rewarding (and fun), and memorable (all the fun). Other than that there's not much to it!

Before you put the carbs in an ultrasonic cleaner, did you pound out the plugs to the idle screw under the carbs and remove the idle jet, spring, washer, and o-ring?

There's nothing splitting the bank will do to help the throttle hanging, so don't put a lot of effort into that.

I'm looking forward to the fun (and expense and danger and excitement and reward and all of it) with great expectation.

Yep, plugs are out and I've been doing test and adjust as I have replaced parts always resetting back to 2.5 turns out to start the next series of tests.

Ok, just checking you didn't ultrasonically clean the carb bodies with the o-ring in the idle circuit.

It sounds like the spring is bound on top of your diaphragm.

If you leave the carbs together and blow air in the crescent shaped section of the air intake, does the slide move up and down freely?

I did the opposite. I put a shop vac on the inlet side and worked the butterfly to verify that the slides move and they did.

The only reason I'm going to try to pull the bank apart is to replace the hoses and check for something I can't see.
