Daytona Bike Week

I got up early and drove down the beach. The sun was just coming up and there isn't a cloud in the sky. If it wasn't 39 degrees I would say it is a perfect start to Bike Week.

Coming back I went by the "Boot Hill" and the beer trucks were lined up to stock the Saloon. Main Street was busy with workers getting prepared with all the goodies.

It's Friday, the Team Hammer School, first practice at the track, and I don't pick up my front fork seals until this afternoon so I'm not going to the track. I'm putting the seals in tomorrow so I'm not going to the endurance race either. This isn't how I planned to start Bike Week.

Monday and Tuesday are Vintage days (bike not riders). I'll be there but I'm not racing. At least I have a friend who will be racing. Not the way I intended to spend Bike Week.

I'm hoping that there will be some good bikes to test ride. At least that will be something to look forward to.

I'll let you know if things pick up. If they don't you might want to check the o'bitchuaries.

P.S. Sunday is first race of World Supa Bike. Maybe that will make me feel better (nah, I'm not racing in that either).

Well CC the good news is 1) you are at Daytona 2) you can go riding. I'm looking out the window with snow still on the lawns, ice patches on the road, and the 18 deg is looking warm compared to what it has been.

CC - enjoy. Warming up here but raining constantly. My parents just went to their place in Pompano. If i were smart I would have crashed with them a couple days then made my way to Daytona.

CC, Enjoy. A good friend, Phil Reid went to Daytona with a large enclosed trailer full of Ducatis. If you see him, say Hi.

DaytonaSportBike, the group I ride with, made the front page of the paper today. We put together a race team in the last 2 months and will run the endurance race today.

A few of my busa brethren will be heading down Monday morning from VA and SC. They rented a condo down there. The one most noticeable is flat black painted like a P40 (shark mouth airplane). If you spot them swing by, say hi. and take a look at the bikes. There are some sweet bike that should be in the group.

No they won't all be on busa's. Some of them are a friends of a group member (they guy with the P40 painted bike) I am not sure what they ride. Look for the bikes rockin an EXTREMEBUSA sticker and you have found them.

CC, Good luck on the race and stay warm. Talked to a friend cruising on his sailboat, In Miami Beach, who said it was 43F this morning. He was only three degrees warmer than Maine. Been a really wierd weather pattern this year. Anyway, show them how it is done..

4th place at Daytona CCS endurance race!

Not bad for crashing in the westend horseshoe and taking 6 minutes to fix the bike.

Good job CC, now are you going to stay for all the trailer queens getting drunk and the RUBS to start showing off their new accessories?

You are discussing. People have feelings. How could you be so cruel?

John Hopkins is racing Daytona this year. Monster (energy) Suzuki. The guy is the balls!

Does Suzuki make a fast bike?

Yes, well Leon Haslem can make them go fast anyway (didn't you see world superbike this weekend?)

Suzuki has dominated US for years, but hasn't been nearly as successful (pretty much ever) in any of the other major series. Weak in WSBK (other than Corser a few years back), non-factor in GP, and only OK in BSB. Working theory is that Suzuki developed the GSX-R to work best with the Dunlops that are used almost exclusively in US racing.

I'm going to ride one of Suzuki bikes and see if it's good.

I take it I should ride the 1000?

This morning I was at an intersection and a biker cop pulled into the intersection and stopped traffic. A few minutes later a police escort, of about 10 bikes, rode through followed by about 100 women on bikes. It was so cool to see all these girls riding together (made me think of softball). It was the beast cancer ride and the cops stop traffic in every intersection for the ladies to go non-stop.

There was only one sport bike. Everything else was a Harley.

So just how far did you follow them before they had to take out a restraining order, Tom?

These girls didn't need a restraining order. They were all bigger than me (not necessarily taller). This wasn't a beauty pageant.
