Hmmm... chain too short or too long? Wrong size? Master link put on wrong? Wrong sprocket for you bike?

I tried to rivet a clip style master link.
CRACK. That's the sound my tool made when it broke the anvil in half. I was under the impression that I could either rivet or use the clip. Should have realized that it was too difficult to flare it, but I thought " well it is supposed to hold a chain together, maybe I'm not strong enough." Ordered new master link and anvil. Work smart, not hard. Lesson learned. Again...
