World Superbike Championship plans European Junior Cup races for 14-17 year olds
The World Superbike Championship will run a new European Junior Cup series for 14-17 year old racers in 2011 at selected eventsLooking to create the same youth movement that series such as the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and the AMA Supersport class have enjoyed, World Superbike Championship rights-holders InFront Motorsports have announced the formation of the European Junior Cup. Open to 14-17 year old racers from around the world, the European Junior Cup races will be held at selected events in the World Superbike Championship series calendar, to be run directly before Sunday’s second WSBK race. The mount of choice will be a race-prepped version of Kawasaki’s Ninja 250R, with the spec series handling all machinery and transport needs wrapped up in a package deal (currently stated to cost €18,950/$25,262). The package includes: • Race prepared Kawasaki Ninja 250 R and pit equipment • Transport of motorcycle to all rounds • Entry fees, tires and fuel • Riding equipment and team wear • Hospitality at the Junior Cup paddock village • Technical support • Race coaching from star riders • Pre season training camp in Spain. The series will be run at the following WSBK events: • Assen, Holland (April 15-17) • Monza, Italy (May 6-8) • Aragon, Spain (June 17-19) • Silverstone, UK (July 29-31) • Nurburgring, Germany (September 2-4) • Magny-Cours, France (September 30 – October 2) To help young racers prepare for an international racing career, there will be an “active coaching program throughout the season” according to InFront, beginning with a pre-season training camp for all participants to be held at Guadix, Spain. Entries will be open to riders who have held a competition license for at least one year in road racing, motocross, enduro, supermoto, trials, or minimoto.
