@NevadaWolf - Teri: Nice ride report and nice ride. You are very close to me when you can through Virginia Beach to get to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. I would like to do this ride on my Ninja at some point in the near future but more of a repeat of the CCC Gold that I did on the Wing. It was nice to see that you got Rick Miller, IBR top 10 finisher and RallyBastard for the Mason-Dixon 20/20 Rally, to witness your start in Maryland. Rick's good people.

One thing that I wanted to point out, I believe you made a statement that IBA Cert Rides must be witnessed by IBA members (I believe I read that).... is not an accurate statement. I have many Cert rides where the witnesses were just ordinary people going about their day until I interrupted them for their signature....

What is the app that you are using on your cell phone that shows your track on the right and your stats on the left?

Gregg

Thanks, Gregg! Ah man, that would have been cool to know at the time, I'd like to meet you one day.

Oh, I need to find that. Never meant to imply IBA members were the only ones, my Dad and friends have signed many of my forms. I like getting IBA members to sign as it's probably the only chance I will meet many of the fine LD folks I hear about. Since I don't do rallies, not many other chances to bump into them.

I have GPS Kit HD by Garafa, LLC on my iPad that will load GPX files, it even has a nice little standalone track editor that I used to clean up the goofy readings my GPS picked up. Or if you feel like ponying up the $99 they have a wicked little GIS tool as well. oh, and a Road Trip Weather app.... *wanders off to investigate*

Same here. Come to ABQ next year for the start or finish of the IBR and you can meet both @Alex and me.

I remember that whole discussion about the reporter and getting witnesses and what not. Since then I have met (just briefly) her and her boy friend and couple of times. Once at the Jax party and the other at Rick's banquet at the end of the Mason-Dixon Rally.

Oh I will be in Albuquerque next year, no doubt about that! Watching the video of Warchild sending everyone off at the start last year was just too cool to not see it in person.

Sides, gotta show support for Team 250! I think Alex said Kurt was in and riding his little Ninjette again?

I am riding the Rally next year on the FJR. I want a finish better than 40th. I believe I am better than that. Not top 10 but closer to top 10 than 40. If I do well next year I am thinking seriously about applying for 2017 on the Ninjette. Just need to work on a aux tank solution for the Ninjette in the meantime.

Ah, @Gregg_VA, I believe I found the misleading statement...

Quote:
Originally Posted by NevadaWolf View Post

To clarify for any others seeking to do IBA rides, Gregg is correct that witnesses can be anyone who is not actually riding with you - family, friends, or random strangers.

The clarify my statement above, the US Route 50 ride uses the Coast to Coast rules for witnesses and documentation. Due to the advanced level of this ride, for the witnesses the rules state:

Quote:

You may fill out the witness section with the Police Station/Fire House address. Ask the officer to supply his badge number and note it on the witness form. Should you be unable to find a willing police officer (please note that to date, this has never been a problem for any ride - it is easier than it sounds) or you wish to start your ride from a motorcycle dealership, the Iron Butt Association will gladly accept the signature of any two dealership employees. If that is not possible, you will have to find at least three (3) independent eye-witnesses.
So, my statement in full should be "On this ride, I only needed one authorized IBA member's signature for a witness, I like getting two."

Its an odd way for this great thread to be bumped (with a first post from motor892)...

But I'm very glad its been bumped.

Great ride Teri. Great report and insights and pics, too.

Awesome

If I read your post correctly, you did the oil change once you got back? What kind of oil do you run that lasts 7,000 miles?

I typically do my oil changes around every 5000 miles using whatever synthetic 10w40 motorcycle oil the shop where I manage to find an oil filter has. Currently have Mobil 1 (Autozone) in there, have used Royal Purple (Napa), Lucas (dirt bike shop), Motul (street bike shop), Kawasaki (Reno shop), and Red Line (Carson shop) before.

The Reno shop insisted I do changes every 3000 miles with the dino oil I originally was using, so switched to synthetic since I would be changing monthly at that rate. But when I read the shop manual on frequency to change the spark plugs, right under it is listed Engine Oil Every 7500 miles.

So I ordered a Blackstone Labs test kit and am going to submit a sample from tonight's oil change to see if I can go a full 10k between changes.

Thanks Peter! Though the trouble with these kind of rides makes me hungry for more. I really do want to come down to your neck of the woods to see what mischief I can get into. Man, a cross Australia ride would be EPIC!

Strange it's been over a year already. Still tossing ideas around for next year's adventure. I need to come back East again, missed too many states last time. Plus I really do want to see New England and maybe cruise along the Dragon and Blue Ridge Parkway just to say I have.

I need to win the lottery.

Well if you come back out to the nations capital area let me know. Some real nice riding in the mountains of VA and WV, as well as the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway's, and I've been itching to ride the Tail of the Dragon as well as stopping by the Back of the Dragon on the way.
