What is my 2006 Ninja 250 worth?

I'm considering selling my 2006 Ninja 250. I need the garage space to add another bike (I also have a Suzuki DR650; my garage will only hold two motorcycles).

What is it worth? It has 6,200 miles. All maintenance is up to date. It has a fresh battery and new tires. The color is yellow and it is completely 100% stock.

The bike is very clean and needs nothing. I doubt that it has been riden much if at all on wet roads. It shows no evidence of being dropped and is always garaged and covered. There are minor imperfections in the paint that are normal wear and tear for a 10 year old bike. No cracks in the bodywork. It is located in the Chicago area so it does not get ridden much during cold weather months.

What is an estimate of what it may be worth to a private party?

I think $1,500 is a fair price for both sides. You certainly won't get more than $2,000 for it, though--at least not in the midwest.

That really depends on your location. I'm not familiar with the Chicago bike market, so I couldn't say for sure. Imo, I'd take any ballpark figures you get here with a grain of salt. What I'd do to price it is look on your local Craigslist, find out what an 88-07 Ninja 250 goes for, then add $1000-1500 or so, given the good condition of your bike, possibly more or less. (it really depends on the demographic of buyers. sorry I can't be more accurate). also consider that you're selling towards the tail-end of the riding season, so until Springtime, prices will generally be lower, which is bad for sellers.

Good luck!

your california is showing.

adding 1000-1500 is doubling the value around here. Most pregens around me are at the 1200 mark or so. People still ask 2000, but those are typically listed on CL forever

In my area (Raleigh/Durham) they vary from $1,000-$2,300+.

I paid $1,900 for a black 06 with 1,880 miles on it in really good condition (a few scratches), up to date maintenance, etc. I feel like a got a good deal, others may disagree. I'd say troll craigslist in your area for a little bit and see what things are selling for then put your ad up.

Yours is 11 years old now, since the 2017 models are out. I paid $1,100 for my '05 with 14,000 mi. in the Raleigh area last year, so also 11 years old when I got it. It was in good mechanical shape, but bad cosmetic shape, with fairing cracks, plasti-dip all over it, and a tank that was dented on both sides. I had the feeling I could have talked the seller down a little more, but he was a kid who was about to get married, and was selling it to raise money for married life, so I didn't try to beat every dollar out of him I could.

We sold a low-mile 2004 in excellent condition with new Pirelli MT-75s for $2000 about 2 months ago.

I probably would not sell it at $1,500 but might at $2,000. I am only considering it because of space issues.

Does the yellow color make a difference in the value of the bike.

I can tell you for sure that I would not consider a 2006 250 at $2,000. Best keep it and enjoy it for years to come.

You've hit on the reason I never sell anything... I value my junk more than the market does.

I'd say the yellow color makes it much more valuable.

Seriously, we bought my bike for under $2000 in California in January, 2006, 7k miles, pretty good shape. I don't know what the market is like in the Midwest but that's what we got for a deal here. It's probably pretty similar condition to your bike.

Carb model is still easily $2000 to $2200 in Malaysia. It is also financed by the motorcycle shop. the interest rate for the financing is around 10-15% per annum.

Come reside here bro.

It is worth less than nothing.

Fortunately, for a nominal disposal fee (which happens to match the cost of a plane ticket), I'd be happy to remove it from your garage....

Know that most of what is for sale isn't that great. Even decent photos on CL that make it look good usually lead to disappointment in-person.

If yours is truly in excellent shape, be patient when selling. People get tired of looking at bikes that are in less than great condition and will pay a fair amount more for one that has been taken care of and maintained. That means clean oil, clean and adjusted chain, good tires, and overall significantly above average condition.

The good ones sell themselves.

I just picked up my 07 250 for $600, because the guy couldnt figure out the carb issues it had. 5k on the ticker, really well taken care of, and fully stock. Cost me about $75 in parts, rebuilding the carb, etc, and I had her running perfect. Ended up being a great bike. Most are priced in the 1000-1800 range here, depending on condition. I don't plan on selling mine even after I upgrade to a 1000cc Ninja.

Just found this to be very true. I have gone and looked at 3 bikes with a friend and his wife. (always a good idea to bring a disinterested party along)

The pictures looked good on Craigslist, but in person the bikes looked like crap. One of the sets of pictures was not even in the guys yard, I think they were pictures from a few years ago when he bought the bike. In the pictures paint looked great, bike with nice and shiny. In person the bike was very weathered and had some surface rust. Obviously had sat outside in the weather, uncovered for a couple years.

Older bikes are even worse. I've seen Kawasaki triples listed with scans of photos taken in the '70s. You have to wonder what's going on in the seller's head.

I would have bought two, tie the engines together on one unit and make a whole new not-so-inline 4.

Crossplane?? Eat my smoke!

My strategy as a buyer when pricing bikes:

1. I check the value calculator on the other ninja forum (although I think for older bikes the formula doesn't work as well because these bikes are only going to get so cheap).

2. I pay attention to the asking prices of the bikes that disappear from CL and the ones that stay on there for weeks on end.

3. I check NADA and KBB but only give them much thought if I'm looking at a dealer.

4. And most valuably I think, I do and advanced search on eBay for the "completed listings" of similar bikes; note the final sales prices of the ones that sale; and figure an average for those that seem to be in similar condition to the one I'm considering. This is the only way I feel like I can get a real sense of what bikes are actually selling for. (I got the idea from a forum and it might have been this one.)

I actually just did this with a 2006 Ninja 250 for sale here in NC and got an average selling price of $1625 for relatively low-mileage bikes in seemingly decent condition.

Maybe $1800, depends on who's buying it. For example, if I didn't have a bike right now and you had a nice-low mileage green pregen, I would have offered $2k. If you're trying to get rid of it, match it competitively with other 250's on CL.

Bike prices do vary quite a bit regionally.

Next time I'm in MI I'll have to bring a couple of those cheap pregens back here to sell.

I bought a 2009 with around 5K miles a year ago for 2100, in pretty much perfect condition (never dropped). I considered a pregen but I don't think I would have paid more than 1500 or maybe 1600 for one in equally good condition. Definitely not 2000. It is hard to find them in great condition, but it's probably hard to find a buyer that appreciates that too. Patience is your best bet.

Winter really kills bike sales in snowy states. I got my 2011 in November/December 2014 with two hundred miles (brand new, pretty much) for $2400. And it was on CL for about a month...
Wait till spring, if you can
