Pregen Carb Options?
So what is everyone doing for carburetion on the pregens? My club doesn't really have any restrictions on the newly-formed 250 class other than stock engine block in a stock frame. The next closest club I may consider racing in is CCS (or CSS..?) and it looks like their rulebook says it has to retain the same style of fuel delivery as stock. Carbs to carbs, EFI to EFI, no swapping.
So it looks like my options are pretty open. Obviously the goal here is to squeeze out whatever top end I can, but another huge factor for me is throttle response. Are the 31mm CR carbs a good choice ? I read they have nothing down low, but I can use my shifter pretty well so I don't see that being a problem. The bike will see 0 street time too, so that helps. Has anyone ever heard of adapting a dirt bike carb to the 250? A custom intake would be needed along with some tuning and a good deal of lateral thinking, but if I could get the responsiveness anywhere near that of a 250F, I would be a happy guy. Thoughts? |

The CR is a good choice. But you don't get much power increase on a stock engine. It's not that that don't have anything down low. They are not a CV carb. So if you wack open the throttle and get ahead of the RPM the engine will gasp. Once you get used to it it is nothing.
The nice thing is tuning at the track. The CR carbs make it easy.
