Have you ever been screwed over?

Not in a petty sense, more of a real world fairly big deal kind of thing?

I got ef'ed over around 2 years ago and I think about it on occasion.
Nothing super crazy but enough for me to get ****ed about it again.

Years ago I was looking to get a custom rifle built. So I researched well known gunsmiths and carefully selected one that seemed like they could best suit my needs. A custom rifle build can take anywhere from 1-2 years typically as you are not going to be first in line so until your parts come in and your number comes up It can be a while and it is fairly understood.

So I paid the smith for all my parts (by law this was necessary) and the waiting game started. I was told around 8months give or take on my build.
The time came and past and I frequently contacted the gun smith who always assured me, he was aware of my build, it was coming up, some stuff came up and he was just slightly behind on other orders and ect...

I am fairly patient and had no reason to suspect anything from this guy as he was well recommended on the web. More time came and past, more contact, more excuses and reassurance. I started to think... well maybe I should demand my money back or look for legal action (but i'm a nice guy and didn't want to hurt this guys business in anyway especially cuz it seemed like he recently had some family problems) so I never did. Finally one day I went to check the smiths website and it was not there and there was a message that read (So and so's rifle builds has filed bankruptcy, please contact this lawyer) So in the end what did this mean, well I was out $2500 and would never see a dime of it again or a rifle as the smith would be protected under bankruptcy laws.
Should have sued that shmuck when I had the chance!!
Sure could use that $2500 back

C'est la vie

I had a beat up car get stolen once and didn't have theft on it but I get a chuckle when thinking about that so I don't count it.

Had the bike in for a 15,000 mile service at J&S (a major chain of bike shops in the UK)

The local shop had a Kawasaki Service Centre, so I figured they were reliable. Within a couple of weeks it failed it's MOT inspection, the rear shock had seized & on inspection the tester said that there was no way it had been lubed since the bike was bought.

I had a talk with the manager, who confirmed that it had not been done, but he insisted that it was not part of the service. After I asked him where it said that in the service manual he admitted that he didn't have a service manual for the 250, that his tech talked to the service department at Doncaster, who told him it wasn't included.

When I quoted the manual to him he hung up the phone & refused to talk to me again.

I ended up having a talk with Kawasaki UK, who were not happy, the regional manager of Yamaha (J&S Birmingham also does Yam) & a considerable number of J&S's customers at the NEC bike show.

I ended up out of pocket, but have put off an entire club in Birmingham, the local cops (who run a similar scheme to the MSF) & anyone who will listen.

DO NOT USE J&S TO SERVICE YOUR BIKE, THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS

MRcycles.com, I ordered a heap of parts for my Ninja 250, the .5mm oversize pisitons and rings were put on "back order", no worries, I'll just have to wait. Communication was good for must be nearly 12 months. Then no more comms. Tried logging in to website and I was no longer recognised. Signed on with a new account to contact them, was promised they would look into it. Now no more replies, $130+ is not a lot of money to some (certainly nothing compared to the original post) but it does bight.
Live and learn.

Divorce doesn't count. I told you not to marry that Russian girl.

Everyone gets screw over. Just don't make the same mistake again.

I've been robbed a few times, car, garage, gunpoint.

It's a long story, but Taye Diggs' brother still owes me $250.

Everything else I've worked out with the help of lawyer friends.

You can't cheat an honest man.

As a general rule in life, if you're honest in your dealings, you can't be cheated. This also means being honest with yourself about your expectations, and poor judgement on your part. If a deal seems too good to be true, you must know there is some risk that it's not all what it seems. If you take that risk, you are partially at fault for the consequences.

And there's also plain old bad luck.
