RPM drops when braking

On my 95 250, when I rock the bike back and forth with the front break pulled, the idle will drop significantly and the bike is close to stalling. A few times, on the street I hit the brakes at a stop light / sign the RPM's dropped and the engine died.

About the bike -
2000 original miles
Bike is bone stock
fuel tank is spotless. No rust
New OEM petcock
Carbs just cleaned and all new jets / components installed
Oil changed and just below the upper mark on sight glass
Battery is new

Any ideas what would cause this?

My money is on the carbs causing the problem. Maybe float level too high or float valves not closing properly.

I hope you didn't use the any jets from a carb kit. They're not genuine Keihin, and they are not the right sizes. The float needles and seats should be OK though.

I was thinking carb related as well.

Is it sputtering, but will clear if you rev it up? It does sound like excess fuel could be getting dumped-in and flooding the engine.

Float levels would be something to check.

I agree with TJ - don't use aftermarket "Carb Kit" or "Jet Kit" jets. Many times they are not correct.

suggest subjecting carbs to the "clear tube method", adjusting as necessary.
