Question for people like me

Who think of weird things that they'd like to do.

So I just had a vision. Not sure how well it would go down though.

So I know the Ninja is a little low on HP. Not bad though really. For some reason I really started thinking about the bike. What could possibly be done to make it different?

Then it hit me, would it be all that bad to drop a KLR 650 motor in a blown old 250? Turn it into a single cylinder, 30-35hp-ish, streetfighter. I'd have to double check the dimensions, but I just think it would be kind of cool to be different. Yeah, there would be issues with shifter linkages, fitting and customizing the frame to accept the engine, etc.

For some reason I just think it would be rather neat.

If I had the pieces and parts I would give it a try. Sounds like a good idea

A lot of different motors have been stuffed into the 250 chassis. You have to remember that the 250 Ninja uses Kawasaki's 1984 vintage "Diamond" frame design. The engine forms one side of the diamond and is a stressed member. A replacement engine can't just be hung on the frame but must be bolted to it top and bottom.

That would complicate things. I'm sure a little welding could complete the diamond without the motor being a part of it.

Seeing as the ex500 motor was already put into a new gen 250 I think that the ex650 is totally do-able.

The KLR650 would be interesting though not a huge gain in power. Also, the vibes of the thumper would be much different than the little parallel twin so hard to say what effect that would have on the frame.

Personally I really like the ex500 motor. It's fast enough for pretty much anything you want to do on the street legally. That said, aside from cost, the ex650 would be the best candidate, due to roughly the same power of the 500 but with the easiness of fuel injection.

That and if you have a KLR650, you might as well strip it down and motard it!!!!
