SoCal: Angeles Crest Highway Sunday November 22nd, 2009 (Pending the opening of ACH)

ACH should be open in the middle of this month per this article: http://www.sgvtribune.com/news/ci_13634594

If the road is open prior to Sunday November 22, then this ride will be on!

Meet at the Shell gas station at 8:45am, and head out at 8:50am.

Breakfast at Newcomb's Ranch.

Route from Jay's Shell to Newcomb's Ranch.

Jay's Shell:
[/QUOTE]

If the road is still closed then I'll just head up to Azusa Rte 39/GMR instead.

IN! I didn't know ACH was going to be open so quickly. I assumed at LEAST a year if not more. Glad our tax dollars are going toward something good for a change :P Hopefully the old crew will get back together again (Ken, myself, Chris, Mike).

Andrew, looking forward to meeting you as well.

Sorry to hear that Andrew, GMR is not the ideal place to hone your skills unless you're vary comfortable with ACH already. With ACH you have to fight the fear of speed, with GMR is the fear of lean angles and blind & banked corners. None gets easier (at least for me) but if you know what your good at or prefer then you're better prepare when riding a particular route.

Count me in on the Sunday ride if its still on

Wow, the turnout is better than I expected.

FYI, I drove by ACH exit off the 210 FWY and as of Tuesday 3am they still have the mobile signs on the side of the freeway stating closure of ACH.

I plan to drive by there Saturday night to check on the signs.

Anyone down for Azusa Rte 39/GMR as back-up? If not, does anyone else have a suggestion? I'd hate to have a nice turnout with no place to go.

Where's your GF's restaurant located? Plenty of parking?

Also, did you just want to go up and down on 39? Or go up 39 and take east fork road and ride GMR too?

It's a sushi place in old town...so there might be a bit of trouble finding parking, but I suppose all we need is 2 spots next to each other. I was thinking up 39/east fork/GMR. I did that last week with chris and it was a really nice ride. Looking forward to the ride, be it 39 or ACH. Check out the caltrans website for updates on route 2: http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

So if ACH remains closed on Sunday, we'll head to Rte 39/GMR. The meeting place will be at the Mobil Gas station located below, and take place at the same time.

Give James a call at Asylum Motorcycle in La Puente. He help another friend of mine fixed up his Gixxer that also need a new front rim. They got a good used parts source and racing take off tires if you need them.

Don't worry about the fall, most true cyclist treat their scratch plastics as badge of honor and stories to tell.

OK, folks, the Brewer is going to bail. Sorry. Kjohnson21, Manycavies and I are riding up to the Rock Store tomorrow. Went up to Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernardino today and bought some gloves to replace the Scorpion Cool Hands that I have worn out. Got a pair of Cortech Scarab but will have to take them back next week because one of the seams in the palm is unraveling. Don't know about Cortechs QC but these are going back.

Never been there, but Ken and Crissy said there is always a lot of riders there and Jay Leno frequently hangs out there. I believe he said it is in Malibu.
