Changed plugs, bike won't idle..

I changed the plugs on my 2001 and the bike will not idle. It will fire with the choke on for a few seconds at a higher rpm, then dies. Before it was screaming nicely, so I reinstalled the same plugs twice with the same result. Both sides seem to be firing. The gap is correct and the cables are in good condition.
Any ideas?

are you saying the bike runs fine with the old plugs installed?

Yes. It ran great with the old plugs. Same new as old except the new plug reads CR-C8HSA where the old one reads C8HSA... What is the CR for ???

R= resistor plugs.

They should both work the same. Try installing one new plug at a time to see if one of the new plugs you bought is bad out of the box. It happens on occasion.

Did you take the tank off to access the plugs? If so you may have forgoten to reconect the fuel line or vacuum line that goes to the petcock. Ask me how I know...

The issue is not the plugs. Gapped and methodically installed... Here's what really happened:

I unscrewed the tank and lazily balanced it enough to get to the plugs easily. The tank fell to the ground, landing perfectly upside down, resulting in a little scratch w/out a dent!! Remounted the tank and tried to start it.

From the tank fall, the pet cock became clogged. I shook it up trying to clear the line (a little more than reserve amount of gas in tank), no result...

WTF? From a tank drop, the pet cock is totally clogged???

you already had crap on the bottom of the tank. when you dropped it, you stirred up the crap and it clogged the petcock. You might want to take the tank off, slosh gas around and dump the contents out by turning the tank upside down. Fill with a bit of fresh gas and repeat until no more crap comes out when you dump the gas out. The petcock has a prefilter on it, I think, so the screen on the petcock itself may be clogged. If not, there is another filter at the end of the fuel line where it enters the carbs that may be clogged.

btw, how are you sure the petcock is clogged?

If you are positive that the petock is clogged do as KKim suggests and you can back flush the petcock by blowing air through it. Blowing air through it may release more crap so you will want to rinse out again.

Since no gas is coming out, I assume the pet cock is clogged. What else could it be?

On the pre-gens gas does not flow out the petcock unless vacuum is supplied via the hose next to the fuel line. It sounds like you are not getting vacuum to the petcock or the vacuum operated valve in the petcock was damaged when you dropped the tank. Attach a hose to the vacuum port on the petcock and suck on the hose. Fuel should start flowing out the petcock and stop when the vacuum is released.
