Just wondering what your thoughts are on the subject. I was talking on another forum about it, and I'm getting a lot of flack for my opinions on the subject.

Not certain if I'm just a goody-goody, or whatever, but I think that they're totally fine to do at the track, with the proper gear... but unacceptable when it comes to public streets, traffic or not.

Did one by accident on 600 the other day. Reved out 1st and the front came up just a bit for a few feet. Was alone on a straight backroad with newer pavement.

There were no good option to choose in the poll. Certainly they are wrong on public streets. Not sure anyone does intentional wheelies at the track. But in a open parking lot, or a closed street, I don't have an issue with them.

By "track" I meant a closed course of some type... my bad.

+1 for a closed course away from bystanders. Never put others at risk and wear all your gear if you choose to attempt this. Oh, also put some cash aside for some new forks,

a friend of my boyfriends got into an accident, he rides some crazy super sport bike something like a 1000cc's. not sure what type of bike it is. anyway, he's a goofball this guy...he had a bottle of wine in his back pocket, and decided to do a wheelie on the freeway on his way to his gfs house to celebrate (thats why he had the bottle of wine) anyway, he lost control or something and ended up falling backwards. (sorry but LOOOOL) the bottle obviously broke and jammed into his butt. (again LOOOL) and he was pretty much messed up.

to that I say.... LMFAO.

just thought i'd share that with you lovely people.

when he was telling me the story, i guess he was looking for some sympathy, instead i actually told him what a total retard he is. I think there is somethign wrong with him mentally....he's a biiiiig guy, he's about 6'5 and weights probably 250 lbs if not more, anyway, he's under the impression that if a car drives over him, it won't kill him unless its a big SUV. i was very tempted to drive my Ford Escape over him to see if its true.

Look at the last video in post #5. Yes it can be done while moving but notice that his body wieght is on the passenger pegs.

I only do them by accident (I mean unintentionally). Sometimes, under a bit of power, the front wheel might come up a little. Sometimes on the track, sometimes on the street. I'm not really into wheelies, I just like going fast (on the track).

in a controlled environment so long as you're not putting anyone else at risk, why the hell not? I've only brought up the wheel on the 250 once though, and it was accidental, I was bored sitting at a light that was taking its sweet time to change, revving the engine, and then it went green and I just dropped the clutch without thinking, it did bring up the wheel somewhat.

I like watching the stunters just like anyone else. But it doesnt belong on a public street.

Not to mention the fact that it just beats the bike to bits. Busted fork seals, bent frames, cracked frames, worn out bearings, etc. Why destroy a perfectly good bike.

I always practiced my wheelies in the empty commuter parking lots on the weekends. Aside from the occasional kid learning how to drive, it's a good couple acres of flat, empty pavement, and the cops (at least in my experience) don't care at all. I actually had one stop and watch for a minute, and then gave me a friendly wave and drive off.

I did try a couple on an empty street, but I was always worried about cops. They're not big fans of motorcycles already, rolling up on one doing wheelies on a residential street certainly wouldn't leave a good impression.

Are we SURE that is not a 500? A wheelie, I believe would be nearly impossible with a 250 at that speed. I'll await someone to prove me wrong.

Those are definitely 250's. Not ones with long clutch lifetimes though.

Depends wat needs to be changed out I believe. If you change out all of the steel and friction plates it shouldn't cost you more than $200 (and a new case of oil

Other than your back? Anything you land on would be my guess haha. Suspension would probably wear out faster depending on how hard you come down...but keep in mind that trying to do slow wheelies is harder than doing fast 'power' wheelies...and unless you have someone who knows what he/she is doing, odds are you'll dump the bike.

Especially with the 250, since there's no automatic wheelie button like on the bigger bikes....this would fall into the range of skilled stunting. Doing a wheelie with a 250 requires a fair bit of skill and balls IMO. If you're interested in trying this either be prepared to dump the bike, or try and seek experienced help...which may still result in you dumping the bike. Either way, strip the bike before you try this.

I think the general idea is start small and keep going a little further each time... but no worries, I have no intention of breaking my bike.

Hehe that's good. That crap is expensive....but as stupid as it sounds it may actually be easier to learn how to wheelie a more powerful machine first. But that's a whole different bag of worms.
