piecing together my gear. Your suggestions?

So i've got a helmet and jacket, but now i'm looking for gloves. They can be shorties, or gaunts.
I'm also looking for pants. Jeans, textile, leather, etc. My only stipulation on this is it MUST have armor, at the least, in the knees.
I've been searching for boots too, but have my heart set on the VEGA II sports.
the name of the game is safety, the small print is money. in other words, i need cheap, safe gear. your recomendations are much appreciated!
colors wanted- blue or green. black is also acceptable, but not wanted...

I recommend getting full gauntlet for sure. When I was looking, I considered the following:

Cortech $40 - cheapest by far
http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com...+Injector+Sale

Teknic lightning glove $99 - cheapest gloves with the palm sliders
http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=7706

Racer high end gloves $200+
These were the most comfortable gloves i have ever felt. highly recommend from friends.

Since I was almost broke, but still wanted adequate protection, I went with the lightning gloves. So far no regrets, and no crash reports.

When I first got my bike I was poor so I went with cheap gear.... then i quickly realized u pay what u get for so I quickly upgraded. So all the gear I originally bought was a waste of money. So Make sure not to just buy the cheapest stuff.

If color is a concern, let it be known they use a cream color on the palms, with white elsewhere. Looks odd to me but I've gotten used to it.

Only major complaint I have is the palms start out slipperier than bat guano. I couldn't even hold a coke can without havin to crush it a little for something to grip. That said, that may be handy in a slide, minimizing friction on the tarmac.

No gear is idiot proof, but it certainly helps to have better stuff.

A* makes good stuff (i have a short A* gloves when i started riding, and still use it when i feel like a squid) But i heard that the quality of A* is starting to get worse (dont know if it is true)

A couple links re knee/shin armor:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=42704
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=58451

If you do go that way, I strongly suggest 'real' riding jeans (kevlar or otherwise reinforced). I've read (and tested the hard way on a bicycle) that standard denim lasts about 5' in a crash before disintegrating, if not less. Not to mention it's no help cushioning the impact.

Most importantly, get gear you will wear. Seems intuitive, but if you hate putting it on and wear it less b/c the hassle or discomfort, it's not gonna do you much good.

IMO get a pair of knee / shin armor first and foremost. Then you can get a pair of armored shorts and then you can pretty much wear whatever you want over that:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...de-Shorts.aspx

It is hard to get more abrasian resistance than hard plastic, and in most lower-speed crashes jeans will hold up decently well. Protectecting your knees, hips and butt with these things will both protect you from impacs and rash.

I just wear knee pads and then kevler / nylon-lined pants. Two of them are from www.brosh.com (their kevlar-lined cargo pants for like $79 shipped), and two of them are just jeans with abrasian-resistant material panels sewn into the hips and butt. Another pair is simple nylon overpants. I wear the knee armor under everything.

For gloves, gauntlets provide the best protection, but you can get semi-gauntlets that still protect your wrists (which is the biggest concern over shorties). I use those because I wear a watch.

Lol, no I don't wear those shorts in public (and btw you know they go on the inside, right?). I don't own them, it was more of a suggestion because I've heard good things about them.

The pants are called "cool" because they have vented panels on the backs on the legs to keep you "cool."

oh how true that is. many times i've started something simply because it was taken wrong or not explained right. and yet, the internet remains humanity's main source of communication... perhaps this is why we have so many problems these days?
