GROUPAMA INSURANCES, soon to be Ageas Insurance Ltd, is the second largest insurer of motorbikes in the UK. They recently put their specialist motorcycle claims team through motorcycle training sessions, with the aim of helping the staff get into the mind-set of UK bikers.

Claims Director Rob Smale says, “The whole point of this training is to help our claims handlers really get under the skin of motorcycling and understand the experiences motorcyclists go through when they are involved in incidents which may give rise to a claim. This knowledge will help to ensure we give policyholders the best possible claims service”

Smale continues, “It was particularly interesting to find out about how motorcyclists feel they are treated on the roads and how we can use this to make the claims process easier. We learnt that motorcyclists often feel vulnerable on the roads when up against cars and other vehicles, yet they feel they are not treated as a distinct group of motorists. This key point alone has helped us to identity some important enhancements to our claims process.
