Aftermarket tach

Trying to install aftermarket tach.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/12000-RMP-km...-/151466325787

Wired everything, everything works except of tach itself. It's needle up down on power on, and then does not react.

Wired:
Brown - power/reference(? Tach has only one + power input)
Black/yellow - ground.
Black - tach read out.

I tried to measure voltage between black and black/yellow -it's always 12v , no matter how I rev up the engine.
Seller said something about tach accepting 5v rpm readout - do tachs even have such thing as voltage marking?...

the Chinese digital tachs are known to come with incorrect wire diagram/labeling. You will probably have to figure out what is what for yourself. It can also be expected that it will not work 100% as it was no designed with one particular model in mind.

I don't think I'm a lot dumber than you thought that I think that I thought I was once.

Those are the correct colors for the bike. Brown is power (brown/black in the main harness, from the Ignition fuse), black/yellow is the common ground, and black is the tach signal.

Depending on what you're using to look at the black wire, the pulses may be too quick for your meter to see them.
