Racing chains?

Anyone able to recommend/or that has used a good lightweight, light drag racing chain in place of one with rings?

Someone looking for similar info in this thread, haven't used anything but that stock 250 chain at this point myself.

Just about everyone in the AFM, myself included, runs a 428 chain and sprockets.

@2WheelGuy , how long should a maintained quality 428 light chain/light sprocket set last on the street on a relatively lightweight pregen, and where could one get one? Looking for performance, don't see a lot of mileage.

So for racing use unsealed chain for minimum losses. For the road use an X-ring chain. No real benefit on the road to a race chain or smaller than stock size, it will just wear quicker.
Quality 520-X-ring chain & sprockets should last at least 20K miles. An old trick we used as couriers was to buy 2x front, one rear & a new chain. Front always wears quicker, so we would swap it halfway through chain life.

Those chains don't last long at all. They need constant lubrication, adjustment, and replacement. I would not run one on the street.

On the track the lighter weight may get you a few feet on the guy next to you over the course of a lap. On the street you won't even notice the difference.

Sprocket Specialists make the sprockets. You can get order the chain from any place that sells chains. Get the highest tensile strength quality chain you can find.

As work on it and replace things, looking to take weight esp rotating and unsprung off the bike wherever can, including battery, exhaust, lights, tires, flywheel, clutch, sprockets, chain etc so it all adds up, but keeping balance of reliability.

GB520MXU is what I use with renthal sprockets.

Aluminum rear? How does it compare weight and rolling resistance vs stock, and how does this setup wear/long does it last you?

Yeah, aluminum rears on the race bike. Steel superlights on the street bikes. Honestly can't say on the lasting since gearing changes a bit from track to track and I can't say that do a good job tracking it lol.

Depending on what aluminum alloy it is, an aluminum rear sprocket can last a long time in street use. I put 30,000 miles on one that still shows nearly no wear. I do keep my chain lubed properly.
