Storm Rolling in and I Have No Garage

Tropic Storm Beryl is rolling in soon and I have my bike parked outside in the apartment parking lot, and I'm quite concerned. Any good tips on how I should park it or any possible shelters for my bike?

I live on the second floor so taking it inside is not an option.

Rent a storage building ? Your in Fla, Im sure there are a million places to rent one there.

If you have no other option, put a cover over it at least, maybe find some way to secure it so the wind wont knock it over.

I wouldn't put a cover on it, it makes it more likely to go over in significant wind.

Here in NJ last year we had Hurricane Irene i believe it was come through and I left my bike out in it. I made sure to cover it up really well so it wouldn't come off or become a sail pushing the bike over. Also if possible try to find a area to shield it from the wind just as a extra precaution. Mine was left on its kickstand and stood through the entire storm.

I half expected someone to suggest riding it up the stairs. I wouldnt advise it, but I've done it on a dirt bike.

Getting it down would suck.

How well do you know the people on the bottom floor ?

Have a car? Put it close to the front of the car with the bike leaning towards the hood.

This will reduce the wind on the bike, and make it so that the only way it'll go over is towards the car, but it won't. If you get it close enough, it'll just tap the car then fall back into position, no marks on either.

Just a thought.

I think a cover would be fine. I bought a tarp from home depot with string attached for 10 bucks covers the bike perfectly and i tie the rope to the wheels. No sail

In storm force winds will lift that & pull the bike over. if it's big enough then attach it to something other than the bike & it should be better.

OP find a multi floor carpark & pop it in there. try to get it fairly well surrounded by other cars & if you have a paddock stand stick it on it for a wider base & more stability.

Just sit on it through the storm. Whats more important: your comfort and dryness or your bike staying upright

Whiskey has the right idea man, Try and take it to a populated undercover area to hold out through the storm. Get a mate to follow you and drop you back after it is over.

Get with a couple of neighbors and ask them if they would mind parking their cars closer together with your bike in the middle of them. Or get yourself a couple of tie down straps, a thick blanket (to protect the bike underneath the cover) and a cover. Strap it down to the nearest light post you can see.

do you not know anyone with a garage?? all you need is a spot a foot wide and 4 feet long...
I'm sure with the storm coming they'll be very understanding.

I drove about a mile to campus and parked it in the parking garage. Since it's summer and tomorrow's Memorial Day, I shouldn't get ticketed.

The storm doesn't seem to come hitting my area as hard as I thought, but now I know she is safe and worst case scenario is a $30 ticket.

I guess I need to start making friends with the neighbors downstairs and get a tarp

I know it's probably not the same as a tropic storm in florida but we had a pretty intense thunder storm roll through during the first week I had my bike at the apartment. We're 2nd floor too so I just kept it parked across the top portion of the space with the car pulled in. I had actually forgotten about the storm until I woke up in the middle of the night and looked out to see trees swaying and rain coming down almost horizontally. Bike ended up being fine. Just my 2 cents.

You could always lay it down yourself VERY GENTLY. in the grass. Just make sure everything is covered... perhaps on a slight hill, just in case you see any flooding. It could work I guess.

Prepare a plan, David; it seems that the hurricane season is going to be active.

The worst about the Florida storms for our bikes are the flying projectiles.

Finding walls or some kind of shields that protect the bike around is as important as covering it, so the wind driven rain doesn't have a chance to penetrate deep into electrical parts, gas tank, etc.

I'm in Savannah, so I'm getting hit hard too. Been getting a couple 40mph winds or higher.

I put my cover on, then bungee corded around that to keep it from flapping. I also parked it on the side of the building opposite the wind. If it gets worse I'm going to park it in a breeze way...don't give a **** about what people think.

Find a local garage or even a bike dealership and ask them if you can store the bike there inside for a day or two- wouldn't cost much if they wanted to charge you. Set that up before a hurricane approaches, for next time.
