TrailTech Vapor wiring

Hi everyone, newbie here.

TL;DR dropped him, stripped him, trying to connect a TrailTech Vapor speedo and wiring diagrams confuse me.

So a few months ago I dropped our 2005 250 and instead of dropping boatloads of money to get it back to stock we decided to drop boat loads of money to turn it into a street fighter instead. So far everything has worked out just peachy. New headlight is on and working, turn signals are on and working, we kept the rear end because it had already been modified by the previous owner and I didn't want to screw with it any more for the time being.

Then we got to the speedo. We were given the same kit that skilletmo (I dont know how to link things here or use forums in general, but I read this thread - https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show...railtech+vapor ) got back in 2013. The issue is I am horrible at reading or comprehending wiring diagrams and While I think I can probably figure out the wiring for the tachometer, I'll probably skip the engine temp gauge because I don't want to have to drain it and cut the tubing.

The real question here is on the '05, there are two AUX ports, one up at the handlebars and another down next to the fuse box. The instructions for the vapor say to run a direct line to the battery OR splice into the current system. Would I be able to just plug it into that AUX port up at the handle bars and save myself the hassle of removing the tank and running wires all the way to the battery? Or would that be a big no-no?

If I cannot get the power from there, would anyone know the best way to attach the speedo to the battery? Thanks so much! I'll have pictures and such once I get home to tinker with it some more, but I'm really hoping to have it up and running for my wife soon so we can go out together.

Hi again everyone! Really trying to figure this all out so I made an imgur post of all the things I could think of. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them! Really trying to get all the wiring done before Saturday so we can take the two bikes out on a little date!

You're welcome!

Be sure to put magnet on brake-rotor first (i used Superglue). Put one side of double-sided tape on sensor bracket to account for its thickness. Then line up sensor on fork to be about 1mm away from magnet as it spins by.

Pre-gen has coolant temp-gauge rather than just thermoswitch in new-gen, so i think you can re-use factory sensor.

To get tach working, connect directly to factory tach wiring:

TACH BLK -> harness BLK/YEL
TACH BLK/RED - harness BLK tach signal, splits off from left coil
