I guess the base wasn't screwed in tight enough so it unscrewed while driving. The base was still clipped into the mount.

Cruised Redwood with a local AFM racer. It's amazing how things can go so much better with someone who knows what the hell they're doing.

Met up with a fellow rider this morning, rode out to Powell Butte and then decided to ride down the old hwy 30 and go up the Columbia Gorge a bit :-) Outside of the cyclists riding in their event, it was a pretty smooth trip.

Ran into a pair of bikes up at the viewpoint I stopped at and the rider on the black Ninja followed me back into Gresham. Hopefully I didn't slow him down too much

Added over 450 miles in just over 12 hours, found a WICKED new road, and learned a way to lube the chain without a rear wheel stand.

Lubed the clutch cable.

Cleaned and oiled the air filter for the first time. There was lots of grime on the pod filter and had to degrease/wash it twice before it was thoroughly cleaned.

Hopefully the cleaned filter won't affect the jetting too much. Plan on going down one size in the main jets with the summer heat.

Surprisingly I was able to balance it enough to use my toe to turn the wheel. I gripped the part of the plastic that's square right above the passenger peg. It worked.

In the process of plasti-dipping my windshield. Looks good so far, but really won't know until I remove the tape and newspaper and see how it looks. I have about 5 coats on now.

Addendum: Just finished the windshield and went to install it. Bottom screws of the windshield won't go back in now because the stupid rubber nuts that the screws go into are dry rotted and destroyed........................just awesome! The top ones went back in, but I have no idea what I need to remove to get to the bottom ones well enough to fix this problem. Anyone had to replace those before? How'd you do it, point me to a thread if there is one on this process.

Just beat the rain. I wanted to put some miles on the new Sport Demons. What a difference over the stock Dunlops. I feel a bit more confident to say the least. Not happy with the size of my strips though, I'll give 'er some time.

I really like the Sport Demons too. Despite Pirelli's less than stellar performance on McLaren F1 cars this last weekend, they're performed admirably on my little ninjette.

Went on a ride and on the way back I started having major issues shifting gears. Downshifting to 1st and 2nd was a bit of a fight. Realized I wasn't even getting into 1st when I stalled at a light. Had to stomp the hell out of shifter to get back into 1st to start the bike. Also noticed that the clutch isn't completely disengaging when pulled in because I would also start moving at lights if I didn't stay on the brake. Got home and noticed that the clutch cable isn't in the greatest shape.

Would replacing the cable solve the problems I was having?

What makes you think it not in best of shape?

When the bikes off and in neutral is there a lot of play(slack) in the lever or is it tight( no slack)?

It looks partially unraveled. There's quite a bit of slack in the lever.

Ah ****, I just went to check from the front and cable is frayed halfway through. Definitely replacing that...

If it's that loose then tighten it up a couple turns and it should shift again so you can get to the shop to get a new cable. A general rule of thumb is to have 1/16"-1/8" of slack in the cable. Just lightly with one finger pull the lever till it snugs and check the gag between the lever and perch at the widest point.
