Clipon Vortex or Woodcraft?

I would like to make this purchase today. I had my heart set on the Woodcrafts but I just found this Vortex for a lil cheaper. The Vortex don't have risers? Would this be a problem?

I emailed both sellers. Do we need risers?

heres the deal with the vortex clipons:

if you don't have any body work, then you can mount them below your triples (racers do this), and have a nice aggresive body position.

if you do have body work and need to clear it, then you need to mount them above the triples which requires you to raise your forks (thus dropping the front end of the bike some) in order to have enough fork leg for them to attach to.

thats not necessarily a bad thing. lowering your front will do a couple of things:
1. make the bike start and finish turns easier. you won't feel like you're fighting the bike so much.
2. make the bike slightly more unstable at high speeds
3.weight the front tire a little more (better planted front)
4. unweight the back tire a little (makes it a little looser)

depending on how aggresive you ride, these might not be a big deal. if you really need to be able to fine tune your setup like I do, then the vortex clipons are going to limit that adjustability a bit.

Broom can't I just lower the front end to make room and mount them like the WCs?

No, because the body work will stay level with the triples. They move together.

Upon prolonged use, I would prefer the Woodcraft below the tree style (with the risers for the clipons). The Vortex ones forced me to have to lower the front end of the bike 1" for them to mount on, which helped make the bike more flickable.

The downside is the lessened ground clearance. I think for racing I would've preferred to leave the front end at the stock height and RAISE the rear 1". This would give the same effect as lowering the front end essentially and would've increased ground clearance instead of decreasing it (and would've yielded the forward stance of clip-ons).

Well let post some links boys I'm sure there are others who haven't purchased them yet looking to save a few bucks. I talked to Toni today and if you call OnCycles directly they will lower the price even more. They just can't list them lower outright on their site due to their deal with Woodcraft.

nice! I bought mine online from oncycles too. They were $2 cheaper back then and had no tax nor shipping cost. How much do they hook you up for if you call direct?
