Piano Man is Motorcyclist

The latest issue of Motorcyclist has an article about New York's Billy Joel being an avid motorcyclist. Billy lived close to me when I lived in New York and went to school with my sister and my best friend Larry's brother (Howie Blauvelt). Howie and Billy were in a few bands together when they were younger and Larry and I used to hang around them. Not as much hang around as they used to take us places (we were the little kids). They also used to beat on us, as that was the thing to do back then, but would always protect us from any other kids.

Last time I saw Billy was at Bridgehampton Racetrack (I was racing AMRR) back in the 80's and he was telling me he had just put a new lift in his garage.

Billy is a real guy, a toughguy (pretty good boxer), and a true motorcyclist. He is on a smaler scale than Jay but still a real enthusiast.

The article is great and he has some pretty cool bikes.

If any of you Long Islanders ride around Huntington you may run into him (ninjette crash pun). He is easy to talk to and not an air head. Look for cool old bikes and you have a chance of meeting him.

Great article on John Penton also. Met him briefly in mid 80's when he was delivering a couple Hi Point trailers to Rhode Island. Larger than life motorcycle figure. Can't believe they used to run enduros on full size HD V twins. He is a big link in the chain of how bikes evolved over the years to what we have now.

What ever happened to the "old school" bike that OCC made for him? I loved watching him making the Teutle's change everything he didn't like. They really thought he'd "put up" with their ideas like every other customer does.
