Unlikely to effect our little game, but interesting:
Quote:
Official: Cameron Beaubier will act as replacement rider for the injured Sylvain Guintoli at Pata Yamaha's home Donington Park round.

The reigning Moto America Superbike champion will thus be making his World Superbike debut, after impressing stateside with Yamaha on his way to the 2015 title.

"I feel really fortunate that the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team is giving me this opportunity to be a part of the team for the weekend while Sylvain is healing up,” Beaubier said. “I'm also thankful that Yamaha US is allowing me to do this in the middle of our season. It will be a tough weekend with lots of learning but I'm going to do my best and have fun."
As reported by crash.net. Tossing a title winning top flight competitor onto the international version of his current level makes a lot more sense to me than the Eslick thing.

Is there a racing fan thread somewhere that I just never noticed?

Not that I've seen, other than all of the newsbot postings in that automated forum.

Moto2 certainly isn't WSBK. But I agree with the point - winning in the US with no international experience does not make the transition easy. Thus my puzzlement (earlier in this very thread) about the lack of media love for PJ Jacobsen, who's working his way up through WSS rather than wasting away in our insular little world here in the states.

I honestly don't ever bother with the newsbot section. Too much bot, not enough human; attempts at discussion get buried in the noise. Perhaps I should create a thread.

There are some old ones like here, but threads are about that season and done. This year with all the races moved to BeIN many of us cannot watch so cannot say much.

Right, but keep in mind that once you reply to a message in the newsbot section, the whole thread gets automatically moved into the General section within the hour. So if you find an interesting topic to start a thread about, it gets more views soon after you reply.

1. The bike he was on was inferior
2. Moto2 it really matters what team you're on, he was on a nobody team where even his teammate ended up a complete flop for the season
3. Herrin had spent the whole previous year learning a more point and shoot style from Hayes, the exact opposite approach that is needed in Moto2

This among the other things including massive bike differences; tire differences, and track differences.

PJ Jacobsen is my absolute favorite american racer. The man puts everything he has into WSS and it shows, he has the most potential to bring the US back into view at the world stage in the next few years

There's also James Rispoli learning the ranks in BSB but I'm way more a fan of PJ

I see it differently. His teammate (Zarco) destroyed him on the same bike that year. It was very clear that Zarco had a future and Herrin didn't. Zarco podiumed 4 times, took a pole position, and finished 6th in the championship. It was nowhere near a flop. It in fact earned him an even better ride, and he took the championship the following year.

It highlighted that the level of competition Herrin was used to in the US was a far cry from world class. Him winning on the Yamaha against no other factory entries, and no other high quality riders in the US, showed itself to be worthless overseas. Contrast that to Spies, who after years of competing against Mladin in the US, went overseas to win the WSBK championship.

I missed Donington race 1, but race 2 has left me more impressed with Beaubier than ever before (note: I wasn't impressed before, so the bar was low...). He put in a genuinely competent performance. With a permanent seat, I could actually picture him doing himself some credit.
