Cleaning Crankcase Breather

I can see some gritty stuff from the top hole. What's the best way to clean it? Is there some sort of element filter in there that can get damaged if I soak it in parts/brake cleaner?

According to this, no. But I haven't ever split the case to verify.

I washed it with brake cleaner. Nothing in there seems to be damaged.

Since you linked me to that website, and since I need a whole lot of OEM parts right now: have you used Partzilla? Comments on service speed and customer support?

I have. Gaskets, filters, bolts, etc. Prices are pretty reasonable and they ship right away. No return on electrical items but that's the case with most retailers.
