Normally, I'm dodgy when it comes to used bikes, but buying one from a dealer would make me feel a lot more confident. I think buying used from a dealership is the best case scenario for a noob like myself.

This is the only picture

I don't really know her condition other than that she has 1402 miles, but I don't think this opportunity comes up often. Think I should bite?

Edit: I don't see any modifications. I'm not sure if the blue rims are stock or not.

The tape on the rims will come off if you don't like it.

Doesn't seem like a bad deal. I'd offer them $3200 and see if they bite.

I'm not sure what this thread means. Are you selling this bike? Or is it just a bike that you're considering purchasing?

it depends on the dealership. half of them barely even look at the bike let alone fix anything on it. you are throwing your money away buying a used bike from a dealer. just learn more about the bike and learn what to look for then go inspect a few 250s for experience in inspecting them, then start looking for a deal. when you find one that isnt too beat up for a decent price, buy it.

or buy from the dealer if you are lazy but you can find a better price.

Well. Stop being a bum and find a better price. Dealers are usually overpriced, stealerships...

No. But I've seen him say he's lazy twice. He can find a better price. Sorry for calling him a bum.

Not sure what the market is like there but I found my 2010 used with 1,700 miles for right at $3,000 from a private seller. It was listed for $3500 but I talked them down to $3k even. I think you can get a better price than that as well.

You should also know that the pictured bike has likely been dropped on the right side. The lack of the "Ninja" sticker on the fairing, says as much, unless it was intentionally debadged, which is unusual, but some people like it that way.

+1 for buying used from a private seller. You're unlikely to get anything other than a lighter wallet buying used @ a dealer.

I thought w/ my first purchase of a used pre-gen, that trusting a dealer would be best route. Hell the price may have been 200-300 higher from them but I was sure they'd at least go over the bike making sure everything was good before putting it on floor.

OH HELL No they didn't... and I was too impatient to wait and properly learn inspecting the bike. So I ended up buying a bike that shouldn't have even been on road, and I do think it was a cause for me running it off road (which resulted in only left rearset break, and 1 minor scratch/dent to left muffler). It was while I was trying to fix the rearset I noticed the loose lower engine mount bolt (the nut holding it on was gone and it was free floating back and forth). That's what lead me to further inspect bike w a local kawi dealer mechanic and we found the forks/frame issues.

Sorry so long, but I rather not see you take the same route... I'm not saying do not buy from a dealer, but do know wtf your doing and don't expect them to sell you a 'safe ride'!!!!

If you go look at the bike again, check & see if there's a decal on the left side. The previous owner of my 650R removed both decals & it had never been dropped.

Some people don't like the extra decals.

Hence why I mentioned it initially when I said it might've been dropped, but thanks for the confirm guys.

A couple other things to look at if you're concerned about lingering drop damage:
The pads on the inside of the fairing, both foam and heat shield on the inside of the right side. Have to be ordered separately from the fairings and aren't cheap.

Color match between the main fairings. I've had to replace a couple of mine and they are the same OEM paint color, but not a 100% perfect match. The original ones were an exact match all the way around, between the left, right and front fairings. I suspect this happens between wear & tear, sunlight degrading the color a smidge and variances in the paint mix when the're made @ the factory.

I *think* the OEM mufflers are VIN-stamped to match the vehicle, but cannot confirm as mine is buried under a bunch of other stuff at the moment.

Of course a carfax check on the VIN might or might not turn up something.

But all that aside, if you're serious about a bike (or used car buy) it's worth taking it to a local mechanic and asking them for a 'pre-buy' inspection. It has consistently been the best $100 I ever spend at a shop.

We paid $1449 LESS for an '09 Ninja 250 that had <1000 miles and was in showroom condition. That was 2 years ago. I know prices vary regionally, but IMO this bike is way over priced and that is if it didn't have any damage or parts replaced.

I paid $3000 for my blue 09 last year, it had 500 miles on it. I think $3,500 is too much. The dealer likely paid much less than the asking price for it, I'd try to talk them down quite a bit.

The posts are correct. Far overpriced. Bought and sold (and occassionally wrecked) over 35 motorcycles in the past three or four decades and this rates as a serious rip.

Keep looking.

I paid 3300 out the door from a dealership for my 09 with 1400 miles on it back in March of 2011. As for the dealership doing 'checks' on it? They don't! They just look to see if it runs and slap a price on it to sell to you.

$3500 for a new 09' 250 yes, but not a used one.

I would set a limit of $3000 or less.

I just bought my 2012 used with 50 miles on it from a dealer for $3600 out the door, so you should be able to get a better deal on that one.

Have scoured craigslist for a while now and I know of three or four 2008 2009 ninjas for less than 2500 and I picked mine up with only 3 k miles for about 1k so I would recommend getting a mechanically inclined friend to help you look over a bike on cl '!

Save big bucks to put into gear and stuff
