2010 Won't start...

So the other day i walked outside to leave work and i turned the key "on". Everything lit up but when i hit the start button i got a quick click and everything just died. The lights went off, everything. Like there was absolutly no batter at all in it.

I was baffled b/c i've only had it about 3 months and about 3000 miles. So i tried making sure it was in neutral and turning the key on and off and nothing. But finally after putting it in gear and rocking back and forthe a little i could put it back in neutral and turn the key back on and it clicked again and did the same thing. I kept repeating the process and it finally just went away and started right up. I turned it off to see if it was a fluke and it started right back up.

Everything has been fine for about 3 days and suddenly this morning it did it again. But i never got it to work. I pushed it off and it started up and i let it run a while thinking maybe the batter way weak and would charge but when i turned it off, nothing. same deal.

Anyone had a similar experience? I can't find any of these same symptons anywhere. Everything i search comes up with dead battery stuff and i don't think its the battery. Could it be the solenoid or something? If so , why do all of the electronics go out. Its almost like everything shorts out.

Also, since the bikes only like 4 months old (its a 2010 but i bought new from dealership back in march or april) would this be covered under the 1 year manufacturers warranty?

Thanks dudes and dudettes!

I had an issue very much the same on a new Vulcan 500. It turns out I had a loose battery cable. I had installed a Battery Tender wire off of the battery and done a poor job of putting things back together.

Thanks man. I'll check that when i get home since that could easily be a possiblity. Having just a little connection but not enough i guess could explain why i just get the click.

^^Your problem is electrical. Don't use starter fluid!

Thanks fella's! Got home, pulled the seat off, and sure enough the screw clamping one of the cables onto the post was as loose as it could be. It had almost worked its way all the way out actually.

I'm always pride myself on being the guy that reminds people to check the simple stuff before you go ripping starters off and stuff. Should have taken my own advice... Kind of like when Carl from Slingblade walked over to the mower that Scooter couldn't get working, and he simply says "It ain't got no gas in it"...

Anyways, problem solved. Thanks dudes.
