my bro went down today on his ninjette

I get a call from my co-worker who was riding with my lil bro today that he went down on I-5 Thank god he was ok and was wearing his gear, just minor scrapes. He was going with the speed of traffic about 65 mph and hit a gap in the pavement where the old pavement meets the new concrete pavement (construction area) and his bike did a wheelie. When he landed he experienced some head shake and he told me that the car in front of him was slowing down real fast and my brother applied the brakes while trying to control the head shake and he locked up the brakes. He didn't want to hit the car in front of him so he muscled the bike to the left and it laid down and he held on to it as long as he can and finally let go of it. He stumbled and rolled around 20 ft. and the bike slid for another 80-100 ft. on its side. My bro popped up and runs after the bike while the bike was still sliding and moves it out of the freeway so that nobody hits it. (this was all told to me by my co-worker). He gets taken to the emergency room and gets released 20 mins later. Someone was watching over him. I havent seen the damage on his bike yet but to what my co-worker had explained to me the left side has some rash on it with the signals gone and the mirrors gone to, with the shifter bent in. I called the towing company and the tow guy explained to me that the bike is rideable since he rode it into the lot. Well i will keep you guys updated with pics of the bike, i get to check it out my self first thing tomorrow morning when the tow company opens. My brother was devastated after he came down from his shock, i told him that i'm just glad he's not seriously hurt and the bike is nothing to worry about (its his first bike), we can always fix it and if not i'll help him get a new one.

Glad he is ok.

Our roads here in Western WA are a MESS Roads are even worse now after the crazy winter. Still gravel everywhere.
then they do these crazy patch jobs.
It is bad berries for sure....

I call DOT and say "uh I guess no one there rides a motorcycle.. yeeesh"

You need to both be happy its just the bike that needs to be repaired and not having to pay a huge hospital bill. Glad your bro is ok, its always the suck when you have to repair your toys but better those than your body.

Sh*t. :/ Yeah, bad roads are bad enough for cars, but for bikes, they're a real hazard. I try to keep it easy on roads I don't know, for example by keeping a larger safety buffer to traffic in front of me, driving a little slower than usually.

Sounds like as far as crashes go, it was about as good as you could hope for. No injuries, a few scuffs, nothing too major to the bike, and a really interesting story to tell over beers....

agree with everyone here... glad your brother's ok and i know how he feels... after my car got totaled that my brother gave to me i felt worse about the car than the minor injuries i had... but in time i realized and he will too that the car (bike in his case) can be replaced and that we should be grateful that we are ok... keep us posted about the bike...

finally got to see the damage to the bike, most of it is cosmetic, i rode it home from the tow yard yesterday. engine is fine (started with no problems at all, no leaks, just got a broken clutch shifter, bent left handle bar, bent in clutch pedal (which i unbent out a little so i can ride the bike home, and a bent kick stand, and the damage to the fairings.

Glad your bro was ok. Prime example where gear is soooooo important. I'm also very impressed with the fairings. They held up well and while replacing fairings is expensive, it is only plastic and protected all the important guts inside.

Rider has gear, bike has gear. This has to be one of the (for lack of a better word) "best" crashes you could hope for given the situation and speeds. I think your brother has some skills too seeing as it could have been super easy to freak out and go all over the place.

Hahahahahahahahah good catch! I totally skipped it! I wasnt even thinking about why you guys were talking about it earlier before I posted. Even when alex said "wonder why this was bumped?" it completely slipped my mind. I'm going to blame it on 3 hours of sleep and intense interviews all day.

I should really pay more attention to the little things.

Where did you get all the replacement parts? I had a similar accident yesterday with a lot of the same kind of damage to my poor bike. I'm already going through withdraws not being able to ride.
