Complete NOOB from the Mountain State... some ???s
Pretty simple, I am 34 and have only rode a motorcycle on the street once which 10 years ago and oddly, it was ninja 250. Wanted something small that would require ample stupidity to hurt myself so I snatched up a 04 250 with 10k on the clock. Runs fine but the previous owner wanted to paint it and started working on the fairings so it needs some tlc but everything is there. I am planning on keeping this bike and no intention to upgrade. What this bike does suits my purpose perfectly.
On to the ???s. I once owned a suzuki gs500 that had the fairings. It had 1200 miles but needed a crank. The guy I got it from never gave me the title so I never fixed it. However I have always loved the naked look. I have looked at some street fighter builds and that is what I like. I would like to simplify the build by tucking the wires, going to a round style headlight, black on black paint, and keeping just the front fender but trimming it as well. My question is has anyone done this? What are the major hurdles? What all can I take off? And the main question, is there any legality issues going this route? Thanks and Happy riding!! |

Welcome,
I've got a Café Racer I'm slowly building. You can take off a lot of stuff. The fairing, side panels, the tail section. I'm building mine on an 1988 so it is registered as an Antique vehicle. Check your state laws for vehicle requirements. Here in VA we don't need turn signals on a motorcycle so my Cafe' just has head light and tail light. Sorry don't have any pics readily available this morning. |

Also wanted to add, It really doesn't take a whole lot of stupidity to hurt yourself on a Ninja 250. They have plenty of power to get to stupid speeds. They just don't do ludicrous speeds.

I want a bike that is easy on gas, looks decent, cheap on parts, and will not hit ludicrous speed... I plan on keeping the 250. Not a starter bike unless I get a 300. |

But the Ninja 250's aren't just for beginners. I've had my motorcycle license since 1986 or so. I've had 900 and 1100 cc sport bikes, I'm really enjoying my ninjettes. |
