Strangers pulling up to you?

So i have been close to other riders on the road before, mostly i would hang back or they would never really get close.
Honestly I dont know how I would feel if someone I didnt know pulled up next to me.
Well someone did today. I couldn't tell what the bike was but it was obviously a litter or bigger bike and he pulled right along side me. And it didnt bother me a bit. It was actually kind of fun.
stayed neck and neck on a straight road and waved when we took his turn. It made me wish I had a friend who could ride so I could have someone to ride with.
What I found funny was that we wernt racing but kind of nudging each other to go a little faster then we would both slow down then kind of speed up.
I stood out however cause his bike was a flat black. Like he spray painted it.
Oh well, it was fun.

I've run into tons of riders and they try to talk to me...kind of hard to communicate through helmets. They've all been nice though, complimenting each others bike if we are at a stop light.

Happens every once in a while. I sometimes pull up side by side with a 50cc scooter on the left lane to smoke them. They're a huge hazard to themselves as they wear no gear and make it easy for a driver on the phone to simply plow them over from behind. Should have a separate lane dedicated to them like in Taiwan.

I've actually had this happen to me quite a few times. Always been friendly encounters. Normally if I see a bike behind me and we're approaching a stop light/sign I move to one side more than the other as kind of an invite that I don't mind them coming up beside me. I also don't pull up beside someone if they don't give much room as I don't want to be rude. If they're stopped first, when we go to take off I don't speed past time. Even if they're going slow I wait a little bit to pass. It's a lot of fun riding with other people. Glad I have a lot of friends that ride in this area!

It's especially nice when they pull up next to you and ask if your ninjette is a 500

I love it when I pull up to another rider or they pull up to me. Especially if they have some-type of sport bike. I usually follow them for a bit to see if they will play. Haha. The Harley guys just kinda nod their head and act like they are too cool.

One time a matte black Suzuki GS500 passed me but I caught up to him at the next light. He said hey and I said hey back. We the light turned green he took off and I followed. On the back of his helmet he had a decal that said "Catch me if you can" so I had to! He was an Air Force dude wearing his ABU's. He was weaving through traffic like a mad man so I didn't follow. This event happened a couple of weeks after I first started riding, but if it happened today I might be a squid and follow him. Haha. But anywho I like riding with random people even if it is for a couple of minutes.

If I don't know you, don't pull up next to me unless I invite you to. Never be next to another rider while moving, you just eliminated 50% of your escape routes.

I had a rider come blasting up from behind me in a curve on a main street the other day and pass me in my own lane. When the next lane over was empty. We ended up at a light shortly after and I handed him one of my patented "DUMBASS" cards. Guess what they say on them in block letters?

You don't see them over here. 50cc scooters just because you don't need a motorcycle endorsement or gear. And they would park ridiculously close to your motorcycle if the motorcycle/scooter lot is full.

+1

Not only that, but there's very few drivers that I trust. Now replace "drivers" with "riders" and that number gets even smaller.

A staggered ride is fine, just not side-by-side. This isn't CHiPs, and I don't look like Ponch or Jon.

Don't MC do this to cars everyday? I realize that the next lane over was empty but the end result would be the same if it wasn't empty. He would still pass in your lane probably.

Are you suggesting that its kosher for a MC to split lanes with cagers to pass but its not ok for another MC to split YOUR lane to pass? Interesting.

Obviously it wasn't the other riders smartest move to pass in your lane if the one over was available but if there was a car there then clearly he would choose your lane. So the point is it can happen and you should expect it as such.

I'm not saying he is right - simply saying it is a very legal move in your state and you should expect it.

It's not legal here in Florida and it happened during Biketoberfest. Of course it was a GSXR rider with no helmet on.

I'm going to hijack your thread as well. I often pull up to ther riders although not all the way. I stay 2 seconds back on the alternate side of the lane. At times in the morning and evening there ends up being a row of us, and yes it is pretty cool (Yay). Want to ride solo, don't cue up. Don't want to share, don't post.

Speaking of "here in Florida," I've had cages pass me in my own lane.

When I took off at a stop light, a cruiser rider pulled up to me and got side by side and gave me a thumb/pinky devil horns sign with his hand. I gave it back, because I didn't know what to do, then we kinda sped together until the next stoplight. That was fun

Group rides are great... just had one today for work... always love getting paid to ride my bike. There were 30 of us and we broke into 3 sticks of 10 each. Took a leisure ride to the casino for the buffet and continued on for a little while after. Stopped at a parking lot and broke from there.

Only bad point when I do it with work is that I'm the only 250 and I constantly have to defend myself or just listen to everyone talking smack. There are however plenty of them that have ridden with me in the lead and know not to talk smack

Exactly right! I don't lane split cars in a curve. We both would have been totally f-ed if I had needed to swerve right even the slightest bit.

Just had a guy on campus pass a car on the bike lane to pull up next to me. He was on an SV-650. He said nice bike. I said thanks. I said you too. He said thanks. Kinda awkward if you ask me.

So I got pulled up on in two days in a row since I posted in this thread. Perhaps my demeanor changed?
