Idle jumping

I have a 04 ex250 I cleaned the carbs, and the idle jumps anywhere from 2000 to 5000 then goes back down after about 5-10 seconds. It does it with and without the choke on. I've put seafoam in it but its only been ridin 2 miles since getting it back together. I read that carb ice coudl be the problem? I was going to learn to ride on the bike but after seeing my husband ride it .... he went to let off the clutch the idle jumped as he was going to take off it almost took off without him. lol

When I adjusted the idle mixture I did it 2.5 turns also. The write up on it said 2.5. Was wondering if that was correct? It was at 2.25 turns before. ANNND The idle screw, could that be vibrating from the engine causnig it to mess up the idle?

thanks

edit.... After adding seafoam it smoked some whiteness, which no longer does so I'm assuming t's helping. It also starts right up now too.

you might also want to check for a cracked or loose vacuum hose.

when everything is correct, the idle should be rock setting at whatever rpm you set it to once the bike is completely warmed up.

how old is the fuel that is in the tank?

Idle speed should be adjusted after the bike is completely warmed up. I set mine for 1500rpm after the bike has been ridden for more than 15-30 minutes.

You'll find the bike will vary the first couple of times you do it, but eventually it will settle down to the rpm you desire.

When cold, engine idle speed is controlled using the choke. Typically, I use full choke on a cold start and the bike will stumble to life. It will then ramp up and idle at 3000rpm. I use the choke lever to incrementally lower the idle to about 2000rpm, then eventually, I can turn off the choke completely to let it idle at the 1500 rpm idle speed I had set it to when the bike was warmed up previously.

I normally try to touch up the idle speed at the end of every ride to make sure nothing has changed and to make sure I know what the bike should be set to on my next start up.

If altitude or temperature changes drastically since the last start up, you may have to reset the idle speed due to these factors all else being the same on the bike.

K then what it's doing might be normal and we're just not setting the idle right when it's warm etc. Ill mess with it this evening and see if it solves it. Hopefully it does!

Thanks for replying.

Also Make sure the carbs are synced. Mine were out of sync and that threw the idle off.
