Pulled for doing 36 in a 35

Went to Georgetown SC today and on the way back a cop in Greeleyville SC pulled me over for two reasons....

1) I was going 36 in a 35. Yes, really. I told him I had slowed to 35 and he said, yes, he saw that and he wasn't really interested in that.

2) He went on to say that the other reason is that I was weaving. I looked stunned at him and said "I did that on purpose". He said it was dangerous to weave on a public street. I said I had never left my lane. He said you could have fallen and busted your head. I replied that in the MSF course and on the SC motorcycle test, one of the test components was weaving around an object. MSF told us our skills were perishable and we should practice to include stopping from speed on a road when no one is around.

At that point he said again, it's not safe but I'm not going to write you a ticket. He ran my license and let me go. I said to him, I know the correct answer is "Thank you for letting me know what I did was unsafe and I won't do it again." yeah, I grinned when I said that and he was cool about it.

FWIW, the road in question is one lane each way with a turn lane in the middle. There were no cars on the street except for me.

Me thinks this was a bored small town cop.

I would contest the ticket and ask for the allowed variance in the speed measurement device during discovery. I am willing to bet it is +or- 1 mph.

I was going 80 in a 60 monday (was 70, but they lowered it because of construction). Saw the officer pointing his radar gun right at me, he never pursued. Probably because of the construction, he figured I could easily lane split the heavy traffic in the construction area & get away if I wanted (I would never run though)

rpanda is correct

Officer sees a bike weaving guess what it's his duty to see why you are driving in what appears to be an erractic manner.

Considering where you were why would you do that? Are you scuffing your tires in preparation for some twisties?

Hey do what you want but my moto is not to look for problems with the cops when I'm on my bike. Weaving in your lane drawing attention to yourself especially when no one is around and cops can easily pick you out will get you noticed in a hurry.

Glad you scored your MSF and other classes. Take the next steps and get ERC and maybe go to a track school. I recommend Keith Codes Super Bike School..two good days of classroom and on track experience. Penguin Racing School at Jennings GP is another good school. Wardie

I woulda raised all hell against that cop in court. ****ing waste of time and money that low life bastard is. I hate pigs, but do appreciate honest police officers who do their job properly in the best interest of the public safety.

+1 least I know Im not the only one....

....but in all honesty if I seen someone doing it I would probably pull them over too, better safe than sorry. If his luck is like mine had he let you go you would have crashed, died, and he be in the office getting fired for not doing his job.

Cops are pretty lax around here.
Matter of fact i weave past one every evening at one of the local ticket traps.

The best thing is we have a motorcycle unit so a lot of officers are riders too.

just prevented another smidsy...
was going 35mph on a two lane road.
driver ran a stop sign and pulled into the middle of the street blocking half my lane, but stopped when he saw me. swerved around him.

i Support officers all the time, but ignorance makes them seem incompetent.

if i ever get pull over for my weaving technique, i WILL make them go through remedial training and it will be etched in their brain the that its OK.

Before I started riding I would see sport bikes weaving on the road in traffic (35mph street, 2 lane). It made me nervous as a cager cause I didnt know what he was intending to do or where he was going. What if he dumped it and I run over him? He got darn close to both lines.. what if he messed up just a little and hit an on coming car? Or slipped on some sand/debris? practice weaving in a safe place.

I weave all the time, though usually not in congested traffic but if no one is beside me, sure. I usually stop once an oncoming car approaches so they don't freak out but other than that, don't really see the problem nor do I care what cagers behind me or infront of me might think. Smart money says atleast 75% are on their phones and most don't even pay attention enough to see each other, let alone care wtf I'm doing. I never really cared myself as a cager before I started riding but meh.....thats me I guess.

dont weave randomly infront of a cop and youll be fine. They see it as youre having 'too much fun' on a vehicle that is supposed to transport you from A to B. If youre having too much fun, youre either reckless or drunk. I dont agree with any of it, just telling you the reality of how it is perceived. You are looked at as someone who does not have full control of his motor vehicle or rides/drives in an erratic manner.
