sewing machine?

Couple of things here I am new to this bike. I am still breaking it in but it is really rediculous keeping it under 4k RPM. I been driving in town now so it is impossible to keep up or ahead by keeping my RPMs that low. So is it normal for these bikes to have a kind of sewing machine sound?

Dont worry about going over 4g..just dont hold it at any rpm for a long time. Vary the rpms a little. Id keep it under 9g for the first 500 miles or so, but going over 4g wont hurt anything.

As for the sewing machine...yeah. It does kinda sound like that...until you wind it up a little.

The stock exhaust has been accused of sounding like an angry lawnmower, so that seems pretty normal

Kawasaki recommends the same RPM limit for break in on all there engine.

Check this out. I can tell you from fooling around with the 250 ninja some ( I have a bigger pile of pistons than him) that this is good information.

Kelly,
Which break in is best? I am actually using the Motoman one. Simply because I cannot keep it below 4K. So far so good.

OK oil change early. What is early? I just reached 130. Do I need to have a rear stand or do you think I can change it with just the kick stand?

Last futzed with by beqwarrior; May 27th, 2011 at 08:23 AM. Reason: adding miles

I thought the same thing when I first rode a ninjette; I learned that shimming the carb needles and removing the snorkel helped the bike to stop sounding like a moped and start sounding like a real motorcycle .

p.s. I believe the first oil change is around 60 miles then the second at about 150. I'm not sure of the exacts but I know you need to change it asap.

first scheduled oil change is at 600 miles, according to the manual. I changed mine a couple of times before that.

mine, so far, has been at 60, 297, 528, 1008 and 1913 miles. oil and filter change. yes, you can do the oil change on the sidestand, but a rear stand makes the job a bit easier.

as far as break in... as a new rider, concentrate on riding the bike so you are feeling comfortable and in control. Don't baby it and don't beat on it.These are tough motors and can take a lot of use/abuse.

Plus 1000000000

do not bother with the riding part about loading the rings if you are a new rider. Change the oil and pay atention to the road.
