Friend getting ripped off by dealer?
So my buddy has a rebel 250, great little bike, but he overfilled the oil a bit and it got into his air filter. He took it to the dealer, and they're saying he needs a new air filter, a new oil screen, and an oil change.
The air filter I can understand, but wouldn't he be alright without replacing the oil and screen? Not to mention that the dealer wants $200 to do the job. I'd do it myself right now for him, but I honestly don't know what the bike needs. any help is appreciated

Seems over priced, replacing things is not a bad idea, probably the right way to do it but you could easily get away without replacing things, just cleaning the air filter most likely and draining some oil.
Don't know much about the oil setup on those bikes

Drain the oil (reput the right amount after)
Clean everthing and it shoud be find. 200$ by the dealer is not to expensive if you add Parts and labors. |

with parts and labor sounds like a normal price.

Assuming it is a 90s or later version, the air filter is a paper filter that can't be washed, only replaced. I seem to remember it costing about $30.
The bike has no oil filter, so the cost of the oil change is literally the cost of oil. I am not sure why a new oil screen is needed. Getting to the oil screen involves removing the right side cover, so now add the price of a new gasket. I can highly recommend the people at rebel250.com for knowledgeable and friendly advice.
