CANCELED: Frazier Park to Ojai Ride - CANCELED

Saturday, April 30, 2011
8:00 AM

Meet up at:
Chevron
27549 The Old Rd Valencia, CA
http://www.meetup.com/socalasianride...411&popup=true

17 SCARs/SCARFs going so far

Who's hosting? !Marauder, Alex

Pace: Easy (~SPEED LIMIT, not a high speed run!)
Gear: Canyon Road. ***ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED leather/textile jacket, gloves, knee protection/pads, and ankle high boots*** (Gear will be checked! Absolutely no regular jeans; kevlar ok with strap-on knee protection)
Intercom channel: 07-01

ROUTE PLAN
(Please note that from Frazier Park to Ojai we will be pushing about 105 miles without a gas refill; most bikes should make it even without the reserve. Our gas stops will be Valencia, Frazier Park, and Ojai)
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...65&ie=UTF8&z=9

The roads here are amazing. Think ACH, but without the huge cliffs, less traffic, and some longer straightaways. There's really a little of everything in these roads. Depending on the size of the group, we may or may not split into groups of 10-15 riders per group, both will still run at an easy pace.

The ride will start at the Chevron by Magic Mtn. After a quick briefing, we'll ride together to the Shell & Arco at Lebec/Gorman via the 5 freeway (Everyone should fill up their tanks at Lebec/Gorman as the next gas station will be about 105 miles away in Ojai).

Then we'll start the real route which consists of two sections (Frazier Mtn Park/Cuddy Valley/Cerro Noroeste and Highway 33). The first leg will twist itself through a forrest with easy curves. The second leg will have some long straightaways and throw you tons of curves once we start climbing the mountains, easy to moderate radius curves.

Our lunch stop will be around 1:30-2:00pm
Lunch will be at Boccali's Italian restaurant in Ojai (don't forget cash).
http://www.boccalis.com/

After lunch, we'll refill gas at the nearby Chevron and roll down hwy 150 to connect and merge unto hwy 126 for a smooth ride back to the original Chevron station.

Notes:
-The ride is subject to weather conditions. If it rains, then it will be re-scheduled.
-The pace will be more or less at the speed limit. This will not be a full/high speed canyon run...please don't come expecting to push your limits!

Have you tried Lockwood Valley Road yet? Also very nice and skips the really long straight (boring) part of the 160/33.

Yeah, it's a damn fine ride. A little hairy when the winds are up. Nothing like being at full lean and having the wind pushing you wide in a turn.

Worst I have had for that was late last year I went up ACH and from Newcombes to wrightwood I got blasted so hard it scared the hell out of me. I went down the backside as downhill with the winds just was not going to happen.
