Sucks to hear about the crash but glad you made it out relatively unscathed.

It was interesting... In the backseat, Ethan (1 yr old) fell asleep as soon as I hit the road, but Kyle (5 yr old) puked his way over Mt. Hamilton. As you saw, the little guy was still groggy from sleeping when we reached you.

The ride home was another amusing set of circumstances:
Kyle: Mommy, drive slowly. I don't want to throw up.
Alex: Annie, can you go a little faster? I'm in pain.

What was that guy telling you when you left, he had you stopped just over the bridge there was even a slow sign on the road?

I asked Annie to stop so we could do a quick inventory of the expensive stuff before we left the scene. We stopped there to pull over, but that guy asked us to move because they were felling trees exactly at that spot right then. We moved a few hundred yards down the road.

I don't expect it to be totalled, but perhaps I'll be surprised.

Glad you're okay. I was honestly confused at the first post. It was some guys story of crashing, but the avatar on the left side was Alex's... was he quoting someone else? No broken bones, that's a relief. Take a happy pill for me and hope you heal up quick.

Alex, I know you run this site, but you need to take responsibility for your actions and explain to us the whole story of how Jiggles caused you to crash. Let's not make excuses for the guy. He screwed up. Your concern for his reputation is admirable, but just level with us and tell us how it really happened. Covering this up will not help him learn from his mistakes!

This morning was not a happy time. As expected, 2 days afterwards turned out to be the worst pain so far for all of the soft tissue injury. On a 4-hr happy pill rotation, and even those didn't help at 6 AM when trying to rotate out of bed. Feeling a little better now, but these are not the moments in motorcycling that one remembers fondly. I hope things start to ease later in the day, and are on an upward curve from here, because if not, this site is going to have a whiny admin for the foreseeable future.

Got to hand it to Helmut, he's knows how to make a pair of gloves that can take some hits and are still good to go.

DAMN!! By the looks of your gear, you probably got off lucky!! Soft tissue injuries are the worst though, almost better off with a break. I was hit from behind on my bike in July 2011, did four months of therapy, and in all honesty, some days I still find my back sore between the shoulder blades, and I get a little crick in my neck when I turn my head to the right. Unfortunately, sometimes soft tissue injuries just never fully heal, I hope that isn't the case for you. I feel for you Alex, get well soon.

One of the more experienced folks tending to me on scene asked if I had been knocked out, and then went through the standard list of questions to judge how loopy I was. (what day is it, where are you, what were we doing, etc.) It's one way to get some information on how likely or how serious a concussion might be.

My first response to him was not to worry, I don't think that my helmet even hit the ground. I may have been a little off. Just a data point to keep in mind that those involved in the accident might not have the best viewpoint or provide accurate information, and not necessarily to take all of their responses at face value.

Thinking back on it many times over the past few days, I think it's likely I was knocked out at least momentarily. I have no memory loss, and remember right up until the point of the accident, and remember exactly what I was doing and what caused the bike to get squirrelly. But I also remember lying on the pavement face-down right afterwards, wondering what happened, why am I lying here, this can't be good, why can't I breathe, where is the bike, etc. Someone had reached me just moments after the accident, and at that point I was able to answer their questions and was able to scooch myself off the road under my own power, so if I was out, the length of time was quite short.

I have lots of experience crashing at low and extreamly high speeds and I remember every cartwheel and soil sample I've taken without ever missing a beat. I've never thought to myself how did I get here. I can also tell you that when you crash hard and fast like 120mph fast when you finally come to a stop your hearing starts coming back slowly and I sound just like the Hollywood war movies when the soldier come to after a bomb goes off in his face.

My dad highsided in turn 5 at Laguna seca during an AMA round. They got him up to the medical building very quick and I was talking to me for a few minutes then he paused and asked me "what happened did I crash?" He had totally forgotten the last 5 mins I had just spent talking to him about the damage to the bike.

He still raced that same day after an exam for clearance.

I think I provided pics of most of it, which ones are you thinking of? My pants showed no visible damage, nor did my boots.

Sure, but it's not only about the material, but how it is constructed. My shoulder took enough of a hit and it slid enough that it ripped the jacket apart, rather than just burning through the material as if it were in one place. The general rule that leather > textile > mesh > wifebeater remains remarkably sound. I own a 1-piece race suit, but it just isn't feasible for many street rides, especially in colder weather.

I went to the hospital with a friend after he crashed hard a number of years ago. Big knock on the head, and had severe short term memory problems. In the ER he'd be like "what happened?" You were in a bike accident. "how is the bike?" It's totalled. "where was this?" On this so&so ride. "Have you called my family?" Yes, they are on their way. He'd feel better once learning this, then 5 minutes later he'd start up with "what happened?". After the 3rd or 4th time, I wrote it all down on a piece of paper in the same order and handed it to him. The fifth time, I told him to just look at the paper he was holding. It seems comical now, but it was quite eerie at the time.

The only time I biffed it at the racetrack was at much higher speeds than what I did to myself on Tuesday. I was near redline in 2nd on an R6 with stock gearing, so right at 100 mph, when I threw myself down the hill past turn 9 at Thunderhill. I remember every twist and turn of that one all the way down, but it was less violent than the recent one.

Condition update. Percoset + Advil = win. I hadn't been using any iboprofen, and it almost immediately helped the swelling and pain due to it. The Perco has oxy + acetaminophen, but nothing for swelling. Only took 400mg of Advil, and it has made a huge difference so far.

I'm very surprised they didn't prescribe you with lot of ibuprofen right away! It's a miracle for swelling and inflammation.

I thot acetaminophen was good for swelling as well?

Try a Jiggles goodnight cocktail

1. Drink a beer
2. Take a Percocet
3. Drink a beer
4. Knock the **** out
5. Wake up and pray you don't have liver damage

Ibuprofen is much better for swelling then paracetamol, but paracetamol is a better pain killer, but you can't take both at the same time.

That's similar to my good night cocktail, only mine goes.

1. Drink a pint
2. Drink a further twelve
3. ?????
4. PROFIT!!!

I don't think acetaminophen does anything for swelling, but it does a reasonable job on the pain itself (and headaches). My wife suggested the advil in addition, so after a google search confirming I wasn't going to die (of this, anyway), I gave it a shot.

Spoke with the BMW shop a short while ago, they estimate $25K+ in repair costs. It appears that I will be new bike shopping in the near future.
