[kropotkin thinks...] - 2014 Brno Moto3 QP Result: Marquez Rules Red Flagged Session

-----------------

The Moto3 QP session was held under mutable weather and a red flag that fell at the worst time, with ten minutes left as the weather cleared. When the track reopened, the optimal conditions could had left.

As the rain flags warned riders of the conditions, banking a decent time before the rain came became a priority, and as riders tried to exploit what little time they had left, others slowed down, causing traffic for the faster riders. This meant Alex Marquez took an off-track excursion instead of riding into slower riders, crashing out as he misjudged where the track ended and the gras started, luckily after banking what was the second quickest time of the session at that point.

Jack Miller dealt with catching a slowing bunch differently, gesticulating petulantly as he wove through them, fixating on Francesco Bagnaia and giving him a healthy shove on his arm in what will likely be another penalty for the Australian.

With just under ten minutes left, just as the weather settled back to ideal qualifying conditions, Philipp Oettl's bike, sans rider, hit an inflated barrier, deflating it and summoning instant red flags for safety. Frustration set in as all the riders returned to their garages.

As it turned out, the rain that threatened after the flag didn't arrive, and the delayed session allowed the Estrella Galacia 0,0 team to get Alex Marquez's Honda ready for the restart. As soon as everyone hit the track, the pace increased drastically and Marquez took the pole position with a 2'07.691 lap with Isaac Vinales and Niccolò Antonelli filling the last two spots on the front row with KTMs.
