Spring rates

Have an Ohlins with a 57/80 (457lb) spring and RT .7 on the front.
I've been re-educating myself on suspension lately, used to be really good with it in the 90's but riding a dual sport from 01-11 and having long travel soft suspension raped my memory.

Have been reading some articles lately and they suggest having a spring on your shock that gives you 5mm of static with having the rider sag set from 25mm-30mm and you are in the ballpark. They say if you have no static sag due to lots of preload then you need a stiffer spring, and if you have lots of static you need a softer spring.

If this determines the correct spring for the static/rider sag on the rear, what determines the correct rate for the forks?

Been chasing handling demons and have 35mm rider sag on rear but so much preload that there is NO static sag.

I just went the easy route and used the Race Tech calculator. Seems to work pretty good for me.

The forks have pre-load as well, which is determined by spacers:
