Maybe getting 2015 Ninja 650

So I stopped by a dealer earlier today and found they have brand new 2015 Ninja 650s on sale for $5800, really tempted to get one. Anyone experienced riding these to know if they're any good? Sitting on it feels alot like my 2000 EX250 as far as riding position, pegs seem a little lower which is nice. Kawasaki apparently has a huge sale on these, and the 2015s are being chopped down from like $7500. Unfortunately they don't have any used ones to test drive, I may find another local dealer that does though.

I've ridden a 2009 Ninja 650. It's like riding a bigger ninja 250. I wasn't a big fan. I prefer the Suzuki SV650.

It was just yesterday, I rode my friend's 2013 Ninja 650. Comfortable ride, torque is really nice, but the only thing that I hate is the super vibrating passenger footpeg. It tickles

literally

Apparently they were overhauled in 2014 or 2015, so we'll see.

So I got a steal on a used 2014 Ninja 650 with 487 miles on it, and factory warranty till 2020. $6k out the door, will be getting it tomorrow afternoon. Only issue with it was it fell on the PO's garage and broke the clutch lever, which the dealer is replacing, aside from that a slight scratch on the stator cover.

It's basically a brand new bike minus the fees.

Emphasis added. Was the first post not an out the door price?

I rode a Ninja 650 in 2012 (maybe 2013) at a Kawi demo day.

It was a nice utilitarian motorcycle. No vices.

But for me, that was its downfall. It didn't excite me. It was... a transportation appliance. I rented a Prius once and got the same vibe from it.

My 08 250, which had been jetted, had an AreaP QuietCore full exhaust, rearsets and clip ons, had real character. The 650 didn't. More powerful, yes. But it didn't speak to me on that visceral, emotional level.

To me, it felt kind of like I was operating a sewing machine.

So as a machine to take you from Point A to Point B comfortably, thumbs up. As a motorcycle that stirs your soul, not so much.

Just my reaction to it. As noted above, a nice bike if it happens to be your particular cup of tea.

I've done a couple of demo days now... a Kawi one and a Yamaha one. Interesting thing: Some bikes just click with you, and it's often the ones you don't expect. For example, on the Yamaha ride I expected to fall in love with the FZ-09 triple. But the bike that clicked was the FZ-07. Can't put my finger on why, either. Just a feeling.

Yes, the first post wasn't out the door, it was sale cost, but not including the new bike fees, so it would've been around $8k after all the fees, and wouldn't have the extended warranty unless I dropped another $700. Getting the 2014 got rid of those fees and had the extended warranty, for essentially a brand new bike. Drove out there with 487 miles.

Funny story with it was a kid bought it while his parents were out of town, then his parents found out, and made him return it or he would have to find a new place to live.

And honestly first ride with it, it is actually a really fun bike, granted I can't really get on it since it's still in the break-in period, but plenty of power, I haven't needed to use more than 1/4 throttle to get going on it pretty fast.

Congrats on the new bike!

I always found that phrase counter-intuitive. If you stole it and you're trying not to get caught, riding inconspicuously on your way to the fence/chop shop/etc seems like it would be the order of the day.

Just an update, been riding the new bike as much as I can, currently have about 1800 miles on it. Sold the 250 to my coworker last month so I'll still be around here periodically to help him out when the bike needs something.

Mods I've done to the bike so far are a flashing brake light assembly, Yoshimura fender eliminator, and a USB power cable to hook accessories to. Still debating on getting a Yoshimura RS-4 exhaust system and zero gravity smoked windscreen.

Also, the day after I got my 650, my dad picked up a 2014 Vulcan 900 custom from the same dealer with 330 miles on it. And my brother came home from the Navy this week and is currently taking his MSC course and bought our neighbors 2007 Vulcan 900 Classic LT. The house is littered with Kawasakis right now lol.

Yea, I like the Ninja 650 because its a good middle ground between the Versys and the ZX6R.

What USB cable did you go with? I'm thinking about adding one while I'm putting on my heated grips and haven't had a chance to do much looking for them yet.

This is the one I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/391302117565...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Easy install, comes with an inline fuse and everything. Mounted mine in the front under the fairing, not noticeable at all but still accessible.
