Got a bike! two brothers too loud

OK so I am about to go pick up my new bike today. It has a two brothers exhaust on it. I am pushing this hobby a little bit as it is with my wife and I am trying to minimize potential backlash. The two bothers is a bit loud. Letting a bike warm up at 3k rpm in the garage or driveway at 6 am for a couple minutes might get some complaints from either my wife or a neighbor.

Do they make a baffle that can be bought to tone it down a little? Or has anyone created a nifty way to try and at least quiet it up a bit while it is warming up. I am in the process of finishing my basement and have some r-13 and r-19 insulation laying around. It got me thinking maybe I could create a sock of some type that I could slip over the exhaust at least while it is warming up.

If all else fails I can go back to the original exhaust since the guy still has it but I do like the sound of it once you get going so if I dont have to swap it out I don't want to.

So have any of you created an ingenious way to tone it down for your neighbors or family?

If it's too loud, you're too old. At least that's what the 18yo told me when I mentioned the volume and asked if he still had the OEM exhaust.

At first I was offended, however once I got it home I realized he was right. Maybe I was too old (or maybe mature is a better word). I was spending too much time worrying about what the neighbors were thinking, etc. So I just put the stock exhaust back on and got back to being 100% excited about my new bike.

Bottom line: I don't believe "being considerate of others" was ever in the design plans for 2 Bros. exhaust systems

I may or may not agree with anything written above.

3k warmup? You only need 2k! The baffle won't help too much, though. I've kept my stock exhaust for future moves where I need to be quiet day in and day out. (I'm running a Dan Moto, which people say is equally loud).

Oh man, I just noticed this morning I'm missing half of the black bracket for my Two Brothers where the canister and the pipe meets. For whatever reason, you don't want that part, I'm willing to pay a reasonable price for it.

I was giving my stock away for free, but it's already taken. Wish I kept it, now I can't even ride it until I find that black bracket.

Maybe I'll make a video later of my 250's stock exhaust compared to my zx6r's two bros full exhaust...that'll show you a world of difference in noise level.

I got the bike home and it seemed quieter to me. When I was looking at it the first time he started it in his little garage and it just seemed loud. I'm just happy I got such a good deal on the bike. $2600 for an 09 with 2500 miles fender eliminator kit and a two brothers exhaust. The thing is spotless and looks brand new. Hopefully I wont have any problems with the wife or neighbors because of the exhaust but he did give me the original that I could put back on if I have to

Don't "baffle" anything, it just takes away air your engine loves. I take mine out of the shed and face it towards a an empty lot @2k rpm. the decibels are behind for most part. Of course when i drive away my covers blown anyway LOL. FTW brother, do what YOU want with her, she sounds beautiful.

How long does it take to warm up at 2k rpms?

I've seen a few different DB killer tips for the Two Brothers pipes (usually they come with the pipe), and at one point I remember seeing someone take a piece of aluminum sheet, drilled some holes in it, and used that as a super-cheap DB killer.

Uhh, well I've got a two bro's slip on coming in sometime between tomorrow or next week, they do have a P1 silencer. Although... it was also called a "power tip.". Im not sure if it lowers it by much to be honest. The explanation I got was that it just sounds more powerful, slightly lower. You can email a forum member NicoleH28, She has the Twobros with that tip I'm talking about. In fact, I got it from the same dealer as her too lol. But ask her, maybe the tip does silence it a bit.

when i'm trying to be quiet, i roll/push the bike a ways away out of ear shot then start it... i like pushing bikes though. it's a lot easier if there's a hill to coast down.

Well, the price on his site for the black series slip on was $419, he knocked it down to 400, then added the P1 silencer and anodized bolts. Also, since I live in the same state, taxes were applied. I ended up with 500 for shipped and what not. Which is cheaper then whats on the two bros site. If it were just the exhaust it woulda been cheaper. I know I coulda gotten a full, but thats fine with me.

^ I think? This was all without me looking at the receipt lol.

I bought my used 2009 SE with a full 2Bros exhaust. When the PO rolled into my neighborhood (mind you, I live in the city), I knew he was coming 'cuz I could hear his exhaust more than a block away. I would have much preferred the stock exhaust but it was the full exhaust, not just a slip-on, and properly jetted and dynoed by the dealer. I bought the 2Bros P1-X tip that attenuates more, and, honestly, could not hear the difference. The tone was certainly different, but it seemed just as loud to me. Then again, I'm an old guy...

Any aftermarket system is. Your bike legally has to comply with noise restriction laws. The stock pipe is rated for a certain dB level. I forget exactly how many dB's that is, but if it's louder than that, you can technically be pulled over for excessive noise.

normally and usually, you won't be pulled over unless you're running straight pipe, or the cop is just having a really bad day.

Straight pipe? As in, no exhaust at all?

Btw Rys, Congrats on the new bike! Sorry I didnt say it earlier. Ride safe.

Yeah like what a lot of guys on Harleys run. They take out the baffling so that it's just their headers running into a gutted muffler. Really loud.

I still can't understand why people are spending +$500 on a slip-on. Slipons are just noise boxes and don't add anything to the performance of the bike. You can get a full system from AreaP for the same price with proven gains...

You can shim the needles with a full exhaust (I believe you can... I haven't thought of carb work in awhile), but you won't get the full benefit of a full exhaust unless you rejet. Honestly you should at least shim the needles with a slip on. Spend $150 on something else if you are getting a slip on, there is absolutely no benefit from a slip on minus the increase in noise.

In NY state, the laws are that it's illegal to sell, install, or operate a vehicle with an exhaust that makes it louder than stock. That effectively makes every aftermarket exhaust illegal. I'm paraphrasing, but that's the main gist, FWIW.

lol I realize this. which is why I wont pay more then that for a noise box... Im looking for sound and style with this bike. Not trying to increase HP... If I want a faster bike Ill just buy a bigger one later...

That depends entirely on where you live, and the propensity of your local cops to pull over loud bikes.

Maybe I am old, but I like quiet bikes. I play in a metal band and my ears ring after practice, so I don't think it's an old guy thing. I love the quiet power of my Goldwing and my stock Ninja sounds fine to me. OK, my CR500 too freak'n loud, but hey, it's a dirt bike and doesn't count.

Yeah... I had the 2Bros on my 08 250r. It was too loud. The P1 tip actually made a noticeable difference, not in volume but in tone. It killed off that higher pitched popping sound the 2 Bros made. Personally, I recommend it.

Well I looked up the p1 tip for the exhaust. Turns out I already have. The previous owner must have put it in. It's not to bad I just try and keep the rpms as low as I can it's not to bad below 4k

Do you live on a hill? If so then you could role down to somewhere less inhabited, or at least to somewhere where the people living nearby don't count as neighbours!

Well then, I guess there is a delima lol. I think any after market exhaust would be loud no matter what. Granted, some louder then others, of course. So you can do some research and see if there is any less noise exhausts, and get one of those. Or buy a stock exhast and put that on. Oorrrr, just tough it out with the two bros. Of course, Im sure youve already seen these as options lol.
