[motorcycle.com] - Field meet brings classic motorcycle games to AMA Vintage Motorcyc

From an AMA press release:

Since the early 1900s, motorcycle riders have participated in field meets, which include a number of fun, casual games on motorcycles. This weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, the American Motorcyclist Association Classic Field Meet Challenge will offer several free activities for attendees of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.

ABATE of Ohio will oversee field meet registration and officiating, with special assistance from the Louisville Vintage Motorworks, an AMA-chartered motorcycle club based in Louisville, Ky.

“A field meet is all about having fun on your motorcycle,” said Jim Elgin, ABATE of Ohio’s chairman of the board. “These games will be just as fun for spectators as participants. Whether you ride a moped, dual-sport, cruiser or a touring bike, we want you to come by and participate.”

The AMA Classic Field Meet Challenge will take place on the infield of the road race course on Friday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Registration will take place on site each morning. Registration is free, and riders on all types of bikes are invited to participate. Awards for first, second and third will be presented for each session. The number of sessions will depend on participation.

Individual events will vary based on conditions, participation and scheduling. Activities planned include a keg push, a slow race, a plank race, a slalom race, a balloon toss, and more.

Riders will need to ride their own motorcycle or scooter and wear appropriate gear (helmet, long pants and eye protection are mandatory). Motorcycles or scooters can be from any era and do not need to be vintage to participate.

For 2015, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is a fundraiser for the facility, which houses the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame and other thematic exhibits that celebrate motorcycling’s heritage.

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer David Aldana is the grand marshal for AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days this year. One of the most colorful personalities in racing, Aldana teamed with Mike Baldwin to win the prestigious Suzuka eight-hour endurance race in 1981 as a Honda factory rider. He also was one of the most versatile racers in history, competing in nearly every form of motorcycle racing, including motocross and speedway racing.

The museum was founded in 1990 to provide a permanent home to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, which celebrates and preserves the rich tradition of motorcycling in America through the recognition of the sport’s greatest heroes. Proceeds from AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days are donated to the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization tasked with funding the operation of the museum and Hall of Fame activities.

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is the home of the AMA Vintage Grand Championship, which includes road racing, motocross, hare scrambles, trials and dirt-track racing. Another top attraction is North America’s largest motorcycle swap meet with parts, bikes and memorabilia from all eras. Bike shows bring out examples of some of history’s most beloved motorcycles, while stunt shows, such as the American Motor Drome Wall of Death, and demo rides of current production bikes keep attendees entertained. Seminars feature some of the country’s leading experts on numerous motorcycling topics.

It all adds up to one of motorcycling’s premier events. Learn more, see photos and read stories from past AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at www.amavintagemotorcycledays.com.
