New Headlight
My plan is to make my ninjette into a streetfighter/cafe racer/naked type of bike. So I need a new headlight. As of right I am planning on getting a universal 7in bucket style headlight.
Right now my thoughts are on this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Chrome...sories&vxp=mtr It seems like it will be a simple plug and play. Since it says, "H4 Halogen Bulb, Standard 3 wire plug" Does anyone have any other ideas for a headlight? I am open to all ideas but I like the simple look of the single round light. Or cheaper prices for a similar bucket headlight? |

I too am changing my headlight, I decided to go with the moose racing alien headlight. Ordered 2 HID bulbs for it. I have everything wired up, I just cannot figure out how I want to mount it. I'd really like to keep the stock speedo but cant decide on how to make a bracket for it. How are you doing a speedo?

I too am working on rigging up the speedo. When I crashed the gauge cluster broke into many pieces so I am just going to run with the speedo. I can pretty much guess the rpms by sound. And I don't really need the dash lights. My plan as of right now is to mount the speedo in a 3.5inch can of some sort. The stock speedo cable really limits where you can mount the speedo. I am just going to weld the can to part of the stock headlight mount. That also broke when I crash so I cut it down to a small size to hold a can or two where I will mount my gauge or gauges. I can't do anything yet though without this headlight. I need to know how much space i have to work with. Will post up pics whenever I get the light. |

I found that a bush's baked bean can is perfect. Or even a larger campbells soup can. Not the individual size one, but the large one. Was like $1.69 for the beans. The problem for me was getting the angle right so you could see the speedo face, and line up the cable stem in the back. Also had to remove the trip meter for it to fit. If you have patience and good cutting skills, you can make it work. I gave up and run the speedo naked too. The cable is rigid enough to hold itself, and you can zip tour tie it to the brake or clutch line.

Look at what the mail man delivered today!
I will post up some pics whenever I get around to mounting it to the bike. I am behind on school work right now so I don't have much free time. Hopefully sometime in this upcoming week I can get it mounted on the bike. |

Slapped it on just a few hours ago!
Here are a few pics.
And here will be my next project. The tach is going to fit perfectly in this can. The speedometer will be a little different because of the trip meter button but I already have a plan. Hopefully it works. Still not exactly sure how I am going to mount the cans on the bike. But I will figure that out as well when I get there. I am just happy to finally have a headlight! I can now ride on the street without worrying if a cop will pull me over. yay! |

mmmhm don't know yet. Haven't really ridden it much because I hadn't had a headlight. And my front end was all wack. Got new forks and a complete triple tree only to discover the the steering stem part of the frame is slightly bent. These bikes have a weak frame.
But I am still going to ride it. Hehe. I'll let you know how it is without the brace when I get some ride time in. Which hopefully will be tomorrow. It is gonna be 75 and sunny!! Woooo |

Headlight and setup looks really good! From the head on it looks great, but from the side, it looks a little low in my opinion. Anyways Great job!

No headlights are as cool, on a streetfighter style bike as this:

My only nit-pick with pre-gen streetfighters is the lines and holes on the tank. I wish someone had shrouds or something coming off the tank to flow with the bike. And the chin fairing looks good too |

My plan to correct this was to grind down those holes in the tank then bondo them. And then correct the lines with bond also. It was going to be a smooth transition to the back of the tank. So there would be a line. Oh and I was going to paint the tank white or dark silver. But since my bent frame issues I don't know what to do with the bike. |

Instead of grinding them off, would it be easier to just fill them with bondo and and then sand it smooth and prime/paint over that? you could even glass over them a little to get some more shape in the tank as well.

You can bondo the side of them but they need to be ground down in the front because they are squared off but the tank is curved. Nothing a Dremel can't fix.

Can you paint over that hardening foam stuff that comes in a spray can? It seems like a good way to fill gaps.

My Craftsman mechanic 154 pc set is the shizzzzzz! Best use of my money to this date. I would be lost without it. I think I could take my whole car and motorcycle apart just with this tool kit. And my Craftsman breaker bar of course.
Probably but it would just look trashy. I think bondo would be the better option! |

Were you able to keep the stock cluster gauge with that headlight? Also do you know if they put out good light pre-HID? Last futzed with by Dimsum_The; March 22nd, 2012 at 09:00 PM. Reason: Quote highlight didnt come through |

Tach looks good in the can! I like it. I was able to use the stock speedo, just had to cut a little bit of the black off to fit the clutch cable.
No I would not recommend the headlight for street use. My low HID has already blown, and you cannot adjust the beam. I am going to keep it on for now, I dont do any night riding, but I am going to change it out eventually, just dont know what. |

No I did not use the stock cluster as you can see in my pictures. Stock gauges will be used. The headlight puts out decent light. Probably close to stock. Quote:
No. Haha. But I will in a little over a month. I know, I know. That is like forever. But I don't have time with school/work. Why did I not finish this project you ask..... http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=97450 I have to swap everything from my bike into a new frame I bought. Which I can't really start till the first week in May when I am on summer break. Yes I am going to use the cans to mount the tach and the speedo. Possibly the temp gauge as well. Yeah you can't really move the gauges very much from the stock location because the speedo cable is pretty short. I am going to make a custom mount to hold the cans. Just get creative and you will figure something out. |
