Meh. I hear Hawaii is over-rated. You see one palm tree you've seen 'em all.

He needs someone who will show him the local area's and sides of the island to NOT ride into.

I work with a lady who lived there and she said she hated it. Well of course she said it looked beautiful, but she could not get over all the bugs. She said the bugs where everywhere and they had these huge centipede's there and they will bite you!

yep... nobody should consider coming here to live. I'd stay away, if I didn't live here. visiting is fine. leave your money, then leave.... and take the bugs with you. please don't bring any of your snakes when plan to visit.

I almost got sent to Hawaii for work last month. Would have been there for 3 weeks! But alas, the trip got canceled. I was planning on weekends renting a bike and riding all over the place. I would still like to do that. Just need to get enough time away from work.

I was in Kauai last winter, also flew into Lihue then stayed at Coconut Market in Kapaa. I LOVED it. Rented a Ducati Hypermotard and rode around everywhere...Waimea beach everyday, Na Pali coast was great too, and there was a Jiu-Jitsu gym where I would go and spar when I got bored of sitting around drinking beers. If you were to rent a bike you could easily go around the whole island in a day. I wish I was back...most beautiful place I've ever been to hands down.

In my previous post I meant Wailua Beach everyday...even though I did go to Waimea as well but only once. If Kokee was up where the canyons were then yes, I went there as well. I tried posting some pics from my facebook but it didn't work.

John,

plan your time well as the days seem to whiz by when on vacation. lots to do and see... also, lots of places to just chill and watch the sun set after an afternoon at the beach.

don't forget to buy some of those x-ray sunglasses for bikini watching.

only if you try and grab them or something. they pretty much hide under rocks and stuff.

the wife and i will be visiting kauai next tuesday. this will be our second time there and our first time together. i think it has been about 18 years since i went... shortly after the hurricane hit them.

per kkim's recommendation, we are going to be staying at the grand hyatt resort. looks really nice. http://www.grandhyattkauai.com/

planning on just vegging out at the property. should be relaxing.

man, i have never seen so many chickens in my life! they seem to be every where around here. at the car rental place, at the supermarket, the mall, at the canyon lookout.... all along the roads. i even saw one roadkill chicken.

the canyon was amazing. very peaceful. the road leading up there looks like it is a blast to ride with a motorcycle. i am sure kkim must have a lot of fun there. still, with a lot of blind turns, loose gravel in a couple turns and the cars coming into my lane, it seems pretty dangerous.

randomwalk, i don't know if you have t-mobile, but when i was using my phone gps, a lot of times, it showed my car driving off the road. then, it would say rerouting even though i was still on the right road. it was pretty frustrating. it doesn't seem like many gps satellites are available here. on oahu, it seems quite accurate.
