In any case, it's bad news to hear that another biker went down.

Opinions: do you think it would be nice to swap swing arm wit r1 or r6? I really don't know the gain or loss in performance but It look really sweet to me.

well, with time and patients, its possible. You would have to research how the swing arm bolts up to the R6 or 1 vs. how its mounted on the 250r. then comes the bolt diameter and length. Im sure you're gonna have to get/make spacers for the fitment. next, you gonna have to measure and make sure the sprockets gonna line up so the chain gets lined up as well. of course you gonna have to get the rim and tire to go with the swing arm. next is the shock. luckily it should be a simple bolt on. check my DIY for my R1 shock swap for info on mating the R1 shock to the 250r subframe. how comes the handling. with a 180 rear tire, you gonna lose a little performance on the 250r. the 250r was designed to be optimal with a 130 rear tire. im running a 140 and haven't experienced a loss in performance, though.

EDIT: hell yeah, its gonna be sweet!

Okay guys here's an update on my bike since I'm in the home stretch.

As you know, sometime in early October, it spun a rod bearing. The exact cause I'm still not sure, but my guess is that the primary chain (the chain linking the crankshaft to the transmission), had tons of slack, and on a hard decel/accel, managed to damage the bearing. That shredded the bearing and blocked up the oil passages to the top end, which subsequently overheated. That was enough to scorch the cam lobes, journals, and a few of the rocker arms. It also scored the rod journal and filled the oil hole with bearing material. The local machine shop (Ted's) didn't have a grinder small enough to fix it, and there are no under/oversized bearings available from Honda.

Now on to the work that's been done:

- 592cc 10.5:1 CR pistons by JE (up from 544cc 9.0:1 CR)
- WebCam camshaft, .330/.330 lift, 288/288 duration (up from .252/.272 lift, 240/245 duration ** can't find accurate specs, but that's what it was reported as)
- Kibblewhite Black Diamond oversized intake valves (+1mm over stock or 28.5mm)
- Kibblewhite Black Diamond stock sized exhaust valves (23mm)
- Kibblewhite heavy duty valve springs
- Serdi valve job
- Barnett heavy duty +1 plate clutch kit
- APE chrome moly head studs
- Stage 3 porting and cylinder boring by JMR
- APE lightened crankshaft
- Carpy's Yoshimura-style exhaust
- HondaMan transistorized ignition kit
- HondaMan swingarm rebuild with SAE 660 bronze bushings
- Progressive shocks
- Progressive fork springs
- New fork tubes (out of stock at the shop I want them from, should be in stock soon)

That's about it for the engine and suspension. I'm still contemplating getting my transmission undercut, as well as either forged rods or aluminum rods.

Will all the big and light internals with massive flow, it'll be more like a roadrace engine, not wanting to be under a certain RPM, and will take off like it has a turbo when it hits that sweet spot. According to an expert, I'll have a hard time getting the advance curve and timing just right. And since it's a points-type ignition with a centrifugal spring advance, I'll have to do some actual work to get it right.

As for the cosmetics, I'll be powdercoating the frame, swingarm, and triple tree Gulf Orange (marigold). The bodywork MAY have to wait as I'll be spending tons on the El Camino to pass safety inspection (and feel a bit safer when I'm driving it). But it'll be Gulf Blue (Powder Blue) with an orange stripe, just like the Gulf livery. I'm still playing with ideas in my head though. I'll have a more definite description eventually. I'll be replacing the wheels with some Excel or Akront wheels with a large polished shoulder and stainless spokes. Already have my black clip-ons. I'll also be doing something with the seat, not sure what.

And here's some pictures for you autophiles (everything's still kinda dirty with lube and such).

Did a 1-lap run around the island last Saturday (23 March)... on the Concours. Did get my adjustable brake and clutch levers (matching set from the2wheels on ebay, since I have a 2002 VTR1000F brake MC) installed on the Ninjette though. As a sidenote, it's a good idea to leave your gloves out to dry after riding around in the rain here. I never had an issue in AZ, but had nasty-ass mold growing on my gloves when I pulled them out from under my helmet yesterday. WAY not cool.

Hey guys I have a problem. I discovered to small rust spots on my gas tank, likely where a rock chipped off the paint, and I'd like to get them repaired. Can anyone recommend a good paint / body shop?

For those of you that I don't know of FB...I had a HORRIBLE experience at Hawaiian Rides in Wahiawa. Long story short...got my safety check done...guy left the keys in the ignition and some kids stole the key. He ended up telling me I had to take some fault to the keys being stolen. Ass hole!

Sorry to hear that. The only fault of yours is mistakenly taking it to such a cruddy business.

They seem to have a bad overall rating on Yelp.

Oh...my husband then got involved after I had to go back the following day cause he said he would get me a replacement key. (that's when he blamed me) and the locksmith that said he had the key yesterday, now doesn't have one. I asked him to replace the garage door opener and that's when things really got bad. Called my husband to vent and he got involved. He called, they yelled at each other....blah blah blah...hubby hung up 3 different times telling him to stop calling and the the last time hubby said, I'm hanging up now stop calling. The guy said, if you hang up again, I'll come to your house so we can discuss this further. Husband accepted his challenge. He never came. After reading everything on Yelp, I guess I should be grateful they didn't break my ****.

Anybody up for a ride later this week / weekend? Friday and Saturday afternoon are both clear and I've been itching to get out and try some new GoPro angles. That and anybody got good directions to '13 turns'? I've done Tantalus a couple of times and while it's ok, the surface can be kinda sketchy, and with yahoos blasting up and down on 600's the police presence is actually noticeable...

Link to original page on YouTube.

As for the Hawaii Rides guys, they completely missed the massive fork seal leak on my bike, so I'm leery of it being anything other than a 'make sure the lights and horn work' tax-check. I knew it was leaking and cleaned it right before I rode over there, but any fork compression and it was painfully obvious. Of course that's pretty much the standard for 'safety checks' out here anyway...

My family and I recently visited Oahu. Arrived back to the Mainland last week. My Father is from the Kalihi area and have family in the Mililani area. We nearly visit yearly. We typically drive all over the island. One of these years, I would like to ride.

Where do you guys ride?

The roads are often filled with traffic, how do you guys get to enjoy your rides?

There are about 5 spots to ride twisties. Traffic does vary so the time you go riding matters too.

Didn't get you text, but this seems to be working! Let's cancel today. I get rained on enough during commutes that I don't have to go out of my way on weekends.
