Finished My First Track Day

Now my neck and back is a little sore lol

I had a great time. There were a lot of great and very cool coaches. I spent every session with one except for the last, when they said I'm good to go, and let me go out alone. Everything about the day was fun. Watching the ex500/250s out there in expert class was fun too. Especially since the guys riding them looked older than my grandma lol

I made a few oopsies here and there, but the worst mistake i did twice. I was too concentrated on approaching 'wheelie hill' that I'd ride onto the grass part of the apex since there was no curbing.

During one session my bolt that connected my shift rod to the shifter vibrated out and I had to come off the track right by the pits. I shifted it into first by hand and rode off after.

it was cold but that obviously didn't stop anyone. a new record of 1:30.9 was during one of the last sessions. meanwhile I barely broke the 2 min mark my last session ( which was my best).

the zx6r was naked, but still pulled strong. I found myself passing in the straights and staying ahead of the people i passed. so i'm glad i wasn't completely parking it in the corners.

Also, I didn't know bikes could be so loud until gsxr's and s1000rr's were flying by at 150mph with basically straight pipes lol

these are the only pictures i have now.

first time i rode out of the pits

the instructors liked that i came there already hanging off the bike. they recommended i tuck my elbow in more and hang off more. they said i looked a little cramped on the bike, but they didn't know how i was so flexible lol

I need to take a look at my starter, its making a more high pitched noise than usual. ideas? and i need a better helmet. when leaned over, i cant see forward very well because the view port isn't large enough.

i'm pretty sure it was recording....

I didn't record any other session because I didn't want to crash because I was riding harder for the camera.

that red rider was a few corners ahead of me. we were both abourh the same speed in the straights. he was about 30 seconds ahead of me and i eventually passed him on the last lap. i had a lot of confidence on the brakes and passed him on the outside of corner 1. looking back now it was risky. the pavement has a negative three percent camber and is notorious for making riders run wide and off.

Glad you had fun. Now you see what we mean about separating the track rider and the street rider. Kinda sucks some times because you feel guilty letting the track rider loose on the street.

I've only got three track days under my belt but even I know that this is what experienced riders usually call a Bad Idea.

Yep! It's red mist's ugly stepsister... it's why the camera guys normally hide themselves or at least try to stay out of the line of vision through corners.

Starter: starter bearing most likely.
Helmet: I had nearly the exact same problem and very picky about helmets. See here.

Lol, wait until you start seeing the photographer, even when they're trying to stay out of sight. It's a whole new fight in your head.

On one hand, you're stoked because it means the tunnel vision is lifting and making it around the track doesn't take 100000% of your focus. On the other hand, you have to not do anything stupid for the camera. No cheesing it up until you're really really really comfortable with yourself and your bike and the track and many different lines through each corner.

Sadly, I'm not there yet. I choose to ignore the camera. A little red mist and some stiff arms already knocked me down a peg. I don't need to make myself stupid on purpose.

Sorry nick, I have never disassembled a sixxer starter. If it's like many others, you can just swap the bearing. But ya know, since you got it off... might as well redo the brushes (starter rebuild) as well. Only a lil bit more time and coin.

No I don't mean dowel pins. Are you sure you put it together right? Best guess is the starter clutch will need replacing soon.

You can do this basic test; take the starter off the bike and apply 12v to it and it should run. It will make some noise but shouldn't whine. Do this and you have isolated the starter from the other moving parts of the bike and you can go from there finding your noise.
