JIS screwdrivers - Why do we damage some of the hardware?

http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...-screwdrivers/

"JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdrivers are definitely different from the standard Phillips head type, although the differences in actual performance can vary depending on the fastener in question.
......
I would still recommend having one of these screwdrivers in your tool collection if you work on Japanese products. Even if the screw heads on your current machine are in perfect shape, using a JIS cross-head screwdriver on them can help reduce damage when the time comes for repair."

I don't know why people do this. Probably just to make our lives hard, making us need larger toolboxes with more tools in them to sort through.

I just take all the phillips crap out and replace it with SS allen head hardware any time I run into it. Makes maintenance SO much better.

I just go to my Ace Hardware store. However, if you got into contact with a fastener company I'm sure they could get you the bolts you'd need for much cheaper than what you'd pay at a generic hardware store. The screws can get expensive at .40-$1 a piece from the hardware store. Still, it is SO worth the saved headaches from removing stripped phillips hardware.

Its still good to have

I agree that whenever I encounter JIS head screws/bolts I just replace them instead.

However, I do like the feel of JIS screws and screwdrivers. They feel more secure.

But then again, its not a common fastener in the US.

Regardless, its still good to have a set of JIS screwdrivers. You see them in carburators and electronic/computer components like the gauge clusters

Also in small gasoline and methanol engines used in hobbies, like Fuji-Imvac, OS and Saito.

Those hobbits use web-stores like this ones to buy JIS screwdrivers:
