clean carbs?

So I am guessing I need to clean the carbs.

The Ninja ended up sitting for a few weeks, only a month at most. When I started it up again it was not doing too well. It would start revving go up to like 3k then back down to about 1k, and it would just keep doing this. The only way I could get the bike to run was to keep the choke fully open.

So I thought the gas might have gone bad, but it had only been a month. But I removed the gas and ran the bike until it went kaput. Then put in new gas with stabil and sea foam. Yet now it is still doing the same. The bike will rev up really high when it gets warmed with full choke but as soon as I back down even a little the bike basically just dies.

It is a 2012, with only 1500 miles on it.

I am guessing that I need to clean the carbs, just wanted to double check before I started digging in there.

Yes, clean the carbs.

When in doubt about odd starting/idling/running issues after sitting, clean the carbs

Have you ridden it yet? Sometimes it needs nothing more than a decent 30+ minute ride to clear out what ails it. Idling it or even revving it with no load in neutral doesn't do the trick.

I posted in another thread just a day or so ago that I hadn't ridden mine in 1.5 months. And boy or boy... it was harder to start and it run like crap for the first 20 mins or so but after that it was all good. I hope your luck is similar.

If you are planning on letting it sit all winter don't bother cleaning the carbs til spring. Because likely you'll have to do it again then anyway. Find a shop that has an ultra sonic dunk tank, they clean carbs better than anything I've seen.

Or just buy some stabil and stabilize the gasoline in the tank.

putting stabil in won't help if the carbs are ALREADY dirty, it's a preventative not a cure.

The Sea Foam does help.

If you pull it apart a soak in Pine Sol is awesome for cleaning gunk out and off carbs.

I'd run that tank of sea foam thru it first though.
