KTM RC390!!!!!

http://rideapart.com/2013/10/leaked-...014-ktm-rc390/

http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-...ull/23845.html

Quote:
The full details are as follows:

TELESCOPIC FORK

The KTM RC 390 high-quality upside-down fork from WP Suspension has the same 43 mm outer tube diameter as the RC8 R – in other words, real racing equipment that guarantees highest levels of stability and precision.

FRAME

Visually similar to the lightweight and approved Duke steel trellis frame, the orange painted frame has been modified to better fit the supersport ergonomics and dynamics. The increase of the steering head angle to 66,5 degrees results in a shorter trail, shorter wheelbase and increased ground clearance. All these modifications release the complete racing potential of the RC and guarantee quick, agile and playful handling.

INSTRUMENT

The 100% digital LCD display has everything you could expect from a state of the art KTM motorcycle, including engaged gear, fuel gauge and service reminder information. Just like supersport racing machines an RPM alert indicates when is the best moment for shifting up.

SWING ARM

The light alloy swingarm with directly linked WP shock absorber excels by providing extreme torsional stiffness and outstanding tracking stability.

WIND SHIELD

The advanced design wind shield in combination with the aerodynamic optimized motorcycle front ensure incredible wind protection for rider’s chest and arms.

SEAT

The two-part seat offers first class supersport ergonomics with perfect support for rider and pillion. With a seat height of 820mm it enables the rider to have a secure stance whilst also being high enough for sporty use and real big-bike feeling.

FUEL TANK

A brand new steel fuel tank with 9,5l capacity (including 1,5l reserve) has been developed for the RC, perfectly matching the supersport style and vehicle design, together with rider ergonomics. Thanks to the economic engine the RC achieves impressive efficiency even when ridden hard for a considerable distance.

HANDLE BAR

Brand new clip on handlebars and switches contribe to a sporty and aggressive riding position combined with advanced control.

WHEELS

Equally lightweight as stable, the 17in orange painted cast light alloy wheels are fitted with grippy Metzeler tyres - 110 mm wide at the front and an impressive 150 mm at the rear. The tyres impress with tremendous grip in both wet and dry conditions, as well as providing supreme durability.

STANDARD ABS

ABS is equipped as standard on every RC 390, ensuring maximum safe on any road condition. When taking the RC to the racetrack ABS is of course disengageable.

SILENCER

The compact underbelly, three-chamber silencer is positioned close to the bike's overall centre of gravity. This aids the centralisation of mass and prevents accidental contact with the rider's and passenger's legs.

A2 LICENSE

With a power/weight ratio of 0.2kW/kg RC390 is right at the limit of the new A2 driver´s license, making the new KTM RC390 the sportiest option for A2 riders.

THIN TAIL

Fitting perfectly into the pure racing look the number plate holder rounds KTM’s high performance bike off.

BODYWORK

The brand new bodywork, footrests and pedals not only provide a unique supersport look but also help the RC to master extreme cornering by allowing a greater leaning angle.

INTEGRATED BLINKERS

As a special feature the RC incorporates blinkers into mirrors structure, which not just looks very sporty but also contributes to the perfect aerodynamics.

HEADLIGHT

Brand new twin headlight opens a new direction for KTM style and perfectly matches with the racing supersport look of the RC.

ENGINE

The state-of-the-art, liquid cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke 375ccm engine with twin overhead camshafts, four valves and electronic fuel injection, already equipped in the Duke 390 provides outstanding power and thanks to the balancer shaft, delivers the highest level of smoothness. Because of the KTM-typical compact design with stacked transmission shafts the engine has an unbelievable low weight of 36kg. Combine that with technical details like a forged piston, Nikasil-cylinder-coating and forced feed lubrication with power-promoting body-evacuation and you get an engine which provides a remarkable 44hp. The engine is equipped with an electric starter powered by a 12V/6Ah battery.

TRIPLE CLAMPS

The brand new forged aluminum triple clamps are eye-catchers and together with the clip on handlebars guarantee a pure supersport racing feeling.

PILLION RIDE SEAT

In order to make no compromises in terms of supersport look the KTM engineers integrated the pillion seat into the bodywork lines so that it looks like a real racing bike tail, but ensuring excellent comfort for the passenger.

BRAKES

KTM developed in cooperation with Brembo a powerful and easy to control brake-system which allows the rider to be always in control of the RC. A four piston radially bolted caliper in combination with a single brake disk (300mm diameter) in the front and a single piston floating caliper with a single brake disk (230mm diameter) for the rear wheel guarantee excellent braking response even under the most extreme conditions.

I like the way it looks. Specs look great, especially the low weight. But the 2.6 gallon fuel tank worries me a bit. Riding it swiftly could mean a range of right around 100 miles.

Interesting design. Shame they didn't go with the Moto3 fairings. Depending on the price I might be interested...since it's only got 1 cylinder I'm assuming it's a budget bike?

Well, they have made some questionable styling decisions in the past, at least.

Right... but that one's so questionable it's actually pretty good looking. It would be like riding around on a Halloween costume, complete with black and orange color scheme.

Eh, I am now used to filling up around then anyways with my KLX250 which only has a 2 gallon tank. But I can see many people complaining about that. Doesn't bother me a bit, just less weight! This isn't a bike you would want to cruise on for more than 100miles based on those race-like ergos anyways. Fill up the tank and stretch your legs. And repeat until satisfied/sore.

I like the way it looks and I like the suspension. I like the power to weight ratio too,.. but I like this package better as the 390 Duke.

I'm just not sold on the thumper motor in a sport bike, needs at least one more cylinder IMO. So no, I won't be selling my ninja 300 for one.

Um, I'm not big on thumpers, but I will seriously drop coin for this bike in a heartbeat. Billet swingarm, proper suspension, underbody exhaust, trellis frame and 43hp. Its about time someone figured out how to make a small displacement sportbike.

Light sporty thumpers suit this style sportsbike.

Not sure if its really what the USA market is into, you probably wont 'get' it, that's why so many small bikes havnt been released in the US over the past 3 decades.

Light sporty thumpers are called supermotos, and they're way lighter and just as powerful as this bike.

...I need a tissue.

That spec sheet looks fantastic except the small gas tank. Good to see someone finally debut a small bike that's not made with the intent of selling to only the novice crowd. *fingers crossed*

And long before dirtbikes became tards that there was Supermonos

The 390 is only 44hp because of market restrictions.

Eeehhhh yeah that's not the best design. hahaha. but KTM RC8R is still one of the best beautiful bikes out there for me.. And this 390 is really up there.

We were disagreeing with max @Trailerboy531 about 390's headlights earlier. He hates them. I kinda like it. I'm tired of seeing "pissed off eyes" kind of headlights on every sport bike nowadays.

that's a good point there really isn't much else in terms of headlights on supersports/superbikes other than "pissed off eyes" though I'm not a fan of the RC8 headlights these are sick looking, kinda like the rest of the bike.

Yeah I like how there's a whole sculpture to the front of the 390 and headlights are inside that form. Instead of what a lot of bikes do nowadays which is just stick the headlights on the front just flat.

Is it 43hp at the rear wheel or at the crank?

I think it looks like an excellent street bike, but it suffers from the same problem as the Honda. My 250 will lap the Honda 250 on the track because it can't rev. Its a shame the bike looks so track capable, but lacks a cylinder.

Well this one isn't exactly a looker. Seems the front end design department was told they were making an enduro while the rest of the team was working on a sportbike. Specs are nice but a single? PASS!

Revs are necessary for an effective track bike. That's why you only see freak ducati v twins on the track. Singles have great off the line punch. I would wager the thumper Honda is a better street bike than the 250. (I haven't ridden one so i can't say for sure)

Below article says the slide was at the KTM North American dealer meeting. Soooo I assume it will be available for the US?

"The 2014 KTM RC390 has been a long-time coming, as news of the bike has been in circulation since a leaked slide at the KTM North American dealer meeting hit the internet over two years ago. Built off of the KTM 390 Duke street bike, KTM said the RC390 would have “Moto3 inspired” bodywork when it debuted."

Lots of reasons, some true, some exaggerated, some false.

It's more a case of marketing / engine characteristics.

Expect the 390 to RC390 to be more powerful than the Ninja 300, more so with a power tuning to bring it above the A whatever limits for europe.

I think the duke would have done better if the guy didn't bounce off the rev limiter so much, and the RC390 would be more aerodynamic.

Singles are much better on change of direction.
plus the 390 has a decent frame, and is lighter.

My cbr250 was 2 secs slower (at the time) vs my EX250 at one track, and 3 secs at a more open track,
Ninja is faster as can hold a gear for a lot more sections and gets a higher top speed,
but feels like a heavy porker and very vague in its handling in comparison, it pushes the front .. but have learnt to ride it on that mushy edge. (0.3 secs off local 250 laptime so right on pace)

I'd guess the 390 to be as agile as the cbr250 but more power than a Ninja 300
quality aside, it should be a little demon. (we hope)

Corner speed is king.

^PS both those riders could do with a huge improvement, they lose so much!
Gear changes (clutched!) and are rough as guts,
the 300 wobbles away off the line with BOTH feet out,
the 390 keeps hitting the limiter every gear.

They could take at least a second or two off.

It's true! they were shocking, like you said clutched slow changes and bouncing off the rev limiter, wobbling, ****** riding.

I expected the 390 to woop the 300 at the line though, I am just chalking it up to bad riding.
